Sabbath may be credited with creating the genre, but those first 6 Priest albums transformed it into what it still is to this very day.

I essentially agree with that. Sabbath definitely introduced many aspects of metal (and the members of Judas Priest will be the first to agree that without Sabbath they wouldn't exist), but Sabbath had many other elements to their sound, "metal" was just one of them. Judas Priest were the first group that became completely heavy metal and then served as the template going forward.

Not taking anything away from all the other groups that influenced metal in the late 60s and early 70s (and the older I get the more my tastes are aligned with the pre-Judas Priest style), but the modern version of heavy metal did start with Judas Priest.

***The above statement is MOST DEFINITELY NOT an invitation to rehash the incredibly tiresome "what was and wasn't heavy metal in 1974 according to Hit Parader" argument.***

That's my feel exactly. Respect due to Zepplin, Purple, Heap, Lizzy, Cooper, etc. Priest are just the first true heavy metal band who embraced what they are.

Amen to THAT!

You state your opinion, which can be agreed apon to a point and then say this....

So you toss something out on the street and then say it's a done deal. By just posting that, you'll get way more commnts than if ya didn't. You've been here long enough to realize nobody needs an invitation to talk about whatever they want to. I agree that disscussion gets old. Still you can't expect to make a comment about that "incredibibly tiresome" issue and then say, I made my remark and that is that. If ya didn't want to rehash that particular issue, maybe ya should of reworded whatya posted
