Sonic Temple was actually the release that got me to buy my first ever CD in what? '89 or '90? I have everything through the s/t, and I still love the Cult, but I bet I haven't listened to them at all for ten years! I'm going to get all this stuff out and stick it in the CD player in the truck- It'll make a nice six pack for spring. I'm starting to realize there are some good things about getting old, like having a bad memory and a big collection. There is a whole bunch of stuff like this in my library which will be fun to revisit, and it's all free!

So true. I've taken to calling it "re-shopping". Weird when I come across something I have no memory of ever buying.
Not a Cult record but a cool Ian guest appearance on this C.O.P. song. Was listening to this album yesterday and it has a very Sonic Temple era vibe. Almost like a lost Cult record. Good stuff.

Electric was what got me into the Cult. I can still remember watching Headbangers Ball and seeing "Love Removal Machine" for the first time. I knew right then I needed that album. It's always been my go to album from them. I bought all their old albums after that. "Love" is a great disc as well. Anything older than that was rubbish to me. I played the heck out of Sonic Temple, but still go back to "Electric".

Since you said it, I'll add this. As I said above I haven't busted these out for many years, and I did last week as promised. I discovered my tastes have changed since my last visit with The Cult. In the 90's I liked Sonic Temple the best (it was the first CD I ever bought, which says how much I liked it 'cause I had to buy a CD player to hear it and they weren't so cheap then); however after running through them now I liked Electric better, by far. It just seems like a more vital album. I liked Ceremony next for very different reasons. Funny how tastes can change without even realizing it happened.

Electric I think had the perfect marriage of material and production, I always thought Sonic Temple was way too polished for the material (and the songs weren't as strong either).

Electric is my second favorite Cult album after Beyond Good And Evil. But I've said it before and I'll say it again, Electric has my alltime favorite triumvirate of songs in a row; the opening tracks of "Wild Flower", "Peace Dog" and "Lil' Devil" is my favorite threesome in music.

You're talking albums; I'm talking tracks on a single album. Besides, my Styx album threesome would be "Equinox", "Crystal Ball" and "Grand Illusion".

Agreed about the 3 openers on Electric. As for Styx, side two (in vinyl terms) of Equinox (technically four songs including the into) is one of my all time favorites- Midnight Ride, Born For Adventure, Suite Madame Blue. Has there been a thread on this topic? Interesting subject, music "Triple Crowns".

I was just rattling your cage and I knew after typing that "Cornerstone" didn't seem correct.

yeah that would be a killer topic, that more than likely would end up in an arguement over genre(s)

You talkin' bout last year's Choice of Weapon? Then yes, I have it and it's good. Not great, maybe not classic, but good. If you can find it on the cheap, pick it up.

The Cult is getting in on the "re-recording-our-classics" trend...
Quote :
The Cult will release a two-disc reworked album entitled Electric Peace, combining their classic Electric record with material from their abandoned Peace project. It’s due out at the end of July.
At least they're throwing us a bone with the Peace album stuff.

Cool. Re-recordings are generally unnecessary but if they feel they gotta do it, it'd be nice to have the long-lost Peace stuff as an added value.

FYI for those not up-to-date on Cult album lore, basically Peace was an entire albums worth of material that the band recorded as a follow-up to the Love album. Producer Rick Rubin convinced them to re-record it, then just scrap the album altogether. Some re-worked songs eventually came out on Electric and others put on the shelf to collect dust. Some demos also appeared on the Cult box set.
I guess we'll finally get to hear what the Peace album could have been.

Looking forward to this, I wish that Rubin had never got his grubby mitts on The Cult (Of course their bank manager would disagree)

Some of those tunes were on cd and vinyl singles. I had a buddy who was a Cult nut and he had all of that stuff!
It's basically Electric done in the original Love album style which it would have been if not for Rubin.

Wait... Reading over this thread, I'm a little confused.
I thought Electric Peace was literally that: Electric as previously released on one disc and the Peace versions of those songs in sequence on the other. Did they actually re-record the Electric stuff?

I saw the thread title, and thought hey that's a coincidence that this thread was just made. But then I saw it was old and resurrected.
