I'm not anti U.S in any way shape or form but I am slightly anti Hollywood and I'm struggling to think of ANY Hollywood remake of a foreign film that is better than the original.
Taxi - No way! Nikita/The Assassin - Hell no! Ringu/The Ring - Nope The Italian Job - Hahaha! Get Carter - See above
And the absolute worst wasn't a film, it was Stephen King's godawful demolition of 'The Kingdom' mini series.
There must be one, but I can't think of it

No argument from me.

I don't know about "better" but I think there have been plenty of remakes over the decades that are at least as good as the original versions. Remaking foreign language films is nothing new in Hollywood. A good story is a good story.
You have to realize that the market for subtitled films in the US is incredibly small and the market for dubbed films is even smaller.

My DVD copy of Nikita has an option of English dubbing, it's absolutely hilarious!
But seriously, if you ever hear of a Hollywood version of 'Delicatessen' STOP THEM!!!!!!
Edit. Thought of one 'The Magnificent Seven' I liked it better than 'Seven Samuri'

Friday night: 'The Station Agent' - 3 damaged lonely souls meet each other and hang out. Hilarity does not ensue. I liked it, but it had a very weird, abrupt ending. Like they didn't know how to end the movie, so the scene just ends. Fade to black, roll credits.
Saturday: "What's Your Number" - horribly cliched romantic comedy that I should hate for a variety of reasons, but I love it. I find Anna Farris both cute and hilarious.

They filmed that movie in my neck o' the woods. I pass the "station" building and train cars seen in the film on my way to and from work every day.
And yeah, it's a bleak, weird little movie, but I enjoyed it too... even though I'm not really sure why.

You had mentioned it once before and got me interested. Just so happened to be on cable the other night so I watched it with the wife. She even stayed awake for it, so it must've been good.

I've also been in the tavern where they shot the scene of Midget Guy getting up on the bar and yelling at everybody. It's an effing dive. Haha.

They had it on regular TV sometime last year(?) and I ended up watching it and enjoying it. I remember the midget guy from the original version of Death At A Funeral........ I think that's how I ended up watching it.

Let Me In (2010)
Decided to watch the remake again. My opinion is essentially the same, about as good of a remake as you could ask for though I still prefer the original Swedish version.

Still one of my favorite horror movies ever. It's a shame we'll never see the fully realized franchise Clive Barker had envisioned because the movie bombed. He had a second and third one planned.

On Sunday I saw two movies at the drive-in and got a lovely case of food poisoning (Monday I spent all day in bed and has things comming out of both ends when awake):
Not the greatest fantasy film of all time, but enjoyable nonetheless.
Again, not the greatest of it's genre but still very enjoyable.
This was the first time in over four months they had two movies playing together that I wanted to see. An otherwise enjoyable venture ruined by getting sick. I've had countless food from this place in the past without any problem. Now I'm not sure if I'd ever be able to eat anything from them again.

"Hellraiser: Hellworld" (2005)
In the seventh (or maybe it's the eighth, I've honestly lost track) installment of the seemingly endless "Hellraiser" saga, Pinhead takes to teh interwebz. A gang of computer geeks are invited to a spooky ol' house party celebrating a Cenobite themed online game, hosted by the always-welcome Lance Henriksen. One by one, of course, horrible things begin happening to them. Have the game players unwittingly opened a portal to Hell so Pinhead can come back to Earth?
For an obviously low budget flick "Hellworld" delivers on the gore front and the gratuitous boobage, but unfortunately it suffers from a severe lack of Cenobite action. Pinhead and his pals are barely in the movie!! They pop up every once in a while, but for most part, they let Henriksen's character do most of the dirty work. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to find out that this flick originally started out as a straight up nothin' special Dead Teenager Movie that had some Pinhead scenes shoehorned into it at the last minute so it could be passed off as a "Hellraiser" flick.
Interesting side note: Henry Cavill, star of this summer's forthcoming Superman reboot "Man of Steel," plays one of the unlucky game players in this flick. If his career as Superman takes off, he may want to consider striking this one from his resume.

Watched some silly show called "Snapped" the whole premise being stories ( reality tv crap) of women who kill their, boyfriend/husband/father/ anyone who done them wrong.
Really strange concept, but watched this one because of the local angle. A woman with a crap lifestyle meets a cop who is swell guy who she marries. She somewhere along the line becomes a porn "actress" falls in love with her co star, leaves sap (sucker) husband, and ends up killing some dumbass for thrills.
Only in Florida could you combine porno, stupid crimes and the only thing missing was that crime did not take place in a pawn shop, strip club or a church.

For What It's Worth Watching them make vinyl records was pretty neat. The "hair collection" was creepy. The show has an interesting premise, but something about the execution of it isn't clicking.

I used to go to this place where this woman would buy estates and then sell the contents in her home. In the front foyer were all these framed hair collections. Still one of the freakiest things I've ever seen. That, and the fact she sold snow cones right under said hair collection.

Though, when there is nothing (and I mean NOTHING) on TV, and you're too lazy to do anything else, it's a good time waster.
