Definitely understand buying those original Priest CDs again as the 2001 remasters are just absolutely horrid. Judas Priest has always felt like an "LP band" to me, that was the format I fell in love with their music on. I've still never heard a CD copy of British Steel sound anywhere near as good as the LP I used to have.
The one exception is the Steve Hoffman remaster of Hell Bent For Leather which is amazing (though sadly out of print).
Agree completely! I finally decided to buy all the original cd releases (I sold them, like a fool, when the remasters came out) because the remasters sound like crap. I have my original Priest vinyl from when I first got them in the 80s and they still sound phenomenal. Unfortunately, I missed out on that Hoffman remaster and I have reluctant to pay the $50 that it commands, but I know I will regret not buying it. Did you see that Mobile Fidelity is releasing Stained Class, Killing Machine and Screaming For Vengeance on 180 gram next month? I will probably get all three.

| ^^ I only have two of the 2001 Priest remasters (Painkiller and Screaming for Vengeance), and I only have those simply cuz they were the last two Priest albums I got around to updating to CD. The rest of my early Priest CDs are the "old" versions, and I like'em just fine, no need to upgrade... _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I think the 70's albums remasters sound fine. SFV on up sound too loud for my taste. That being said, I have the remasters and sold my originals. | |

The 70s albums are like all the other remasters, brickwalled to hell and back. Complete lack of dynamics and LOUD. Ugh. Frankly, the originals sound fine with the exception of Sin After Sin which is sorely lacking in bass, but that's a limitation in the original vinyl as well for that album.

All of those Priest discs are the original Columbia Records cds. I just need Screaming, Live and Ram It Down and I will have all the original cd releases. I should never had sold them in the first place.
