A much better film tackling some of the same ground is "Like Crazy".

Right on point there. I liked Take this Waltz, but Like Crazy was really well done.

No arguments with your thoughts on these two films. I'm not sure I actually liked any of the characters in "Take This Waltz", whereas with "Like Crazy", I enjoyed both lead performances and the Jennifer Lawrence character. Likeability goes a long way with me, even if the character is a nefarious one. I think I was put off by how vanilla the characters were in "Take This Waltz", whereas the characters in "Like Crazy" were multidimensional. I attribute that to average writing or bad direction as well. I think both Williams and Rogen did what they could with the script they had. Maybe I was also disgusted by the lack of growth within a character like that of Michelle Williams.

I updated my list on the previous page of where they rank, but here were a few that I finally rented this summer from 2012.

Django Unchained **** (I'm not sure why it took me so long to see this)
Savages ***1/4 (I thought I would hate this, but I really liked it)
Killer Joe ** 1/2 (McConaughey great, film average..)
Cabin In the Woods ***
On the Road ***
Not Fade Away ***3/4 (It's always great to find a great period piece, with music as the centerpiece)
Ten Years ***1/2 (Surprisingly really good)
Taken 2 ** 1/2 (Good action, bad script...)
Guilt Trip *** 1/4) (Sweet movie, with good pairing of Streisand and Rogen)
Seven Psychopaths *** (Good ensemble)

Movies which are still on my list to see from 2012:

Safe House (I might have seen this)
Wanderlust
Being Flynn
Jeff, Who Lives at Home
Moonrise Kingdom
Hope Springs
The Master
Hitchcock
