There are some good prog metal bands in the Christian realm like Emotion (can't find youtube samples-I hate when bands use simple words for their band names, makes it so damn hard to find info on them) and Destra:

If I could find some prog-metal more along the lines of Voivod's Dimension Hatross, Nothingface, Angel Rat & The Outer Limits instead of the Dream Theater/Queensryche school I'd be a happier dude.

You've still not checked out Vektor, have you? Albeit, they're not clones of Voivod (though their logo is), they are a really unique prog-thrash band.

I thought they were on Spotify at one point but they appear to be gone now. I remember sampling some and thinking they sounded alot like Kreator, but I only jammed a couple songs. I'll see if I can find them on youtube or something and listen to some more.

well, I can't promise Voivod clones, but there is some stuff which is fairly melodic and outside the box:
Absurd² - Wisdom EP (this is probably the closest thing to Voivod I can come up with off the top of my head) Lanfear - Zero Poems Gonin-Ish - Naishikyo Sekai Lengsel - The Kiss, The Hope (already rec'd to you) Twisted into Form - Then Comes Affliction To Awaken The Dreamer (yes, it's 'tech', but there is some realllly tasty stuff in here)
the first three maudlin of the Well albums, which are obvious by now especially since you are an Opeth fan (and for what it's worth, I think that trio bests the whole Opeth discography..except for 'Morningrise')
and also, the last two Believer albums have some very very good stuff, some really cool ingredients mixed in there, definitely progressive thinking happening. They also happen to be my favorites by the band.
and you probably have whatever else I was going to say.

I can vouch for those, maudlin of the Well are fantastic. Bath is probably one of my all-time favorite albums.

Thanks for the suggestions. I wasn't specifically looking for Voivod clones, I was just looking for something in that general ballpark. Bands who sound like their influences go beyond Dream Theater, Queensryche and Iron Maiden.
Maudlin Of The Well is cool, but I don't think they sound anything like Opeth at all, apples and oranges. I mean, both bands have heavy sections and light sections...but the way they approach them is completely and utterly different.

Heard MIND OVER FOUR - "Half Way Down"? Prog metal beyond description.
What about ANACRUSIS - "Manic Impressions" and "Screams and Whispers"?
I assume you like later-day CORONER.

I know. My entryway when recommending them is the light-dark thing which most people are familiar with via Opeth. But that music on those records is so rich.
Oh, I forgot Ephel Duath, most anything by them is worth checking out too.

Definitely, Coroner is a band I still enjoy just as much now as i did when they first came out. One of my favorites.
I'll check out the Mind Over Four and Anacrusis. Thanks!

Twisted Into Form is an excellent band. Too bad they seem to have been a one-and-done thing.

Man, I'm so glad Alex recommended Distorted Harmony here. What a fantastic album. Listened through a number of times today, and it's excellent.
The new Kaipa and Beardfish are great as well. Love it! Stealing Axion will take a few more listens, I think. This was kind of a blind buy because the buzz has been so positive. They're a bit screamo, though. Kind of like The Safety Fire or Periphery.
Lots of the younger bands are playing that kind of proggy screamo stuff. I dig it, though. Of course, this was being done back in the early 90s by bands like Iceburn and Deadguy and Guilt. They were ahead of their time. It was called jazzcore back then.

Was Vanden Plas already mentioned?
I was jamming Far Off Grace in the car last night. That has to be my favorite album by them.
