Haywire (Steven Soderbergh). Kick ass old school espionage/action flick with a 70s vibe. Nice to see a modern action film with only 1 obvious CGI shot. More akin to Soderbergh's independent productions, with emphasis on mood and tone, excellent cinematography and score. Carano is completely convincing as the ex-marine mercenary who is wronged and out for revenge. Low-key but very entertaining. If you like some style with your action this is recommended, however don't expect huge action set pieces and explosions because there aren't any.

"Hobo With A Shotgun"
The title tells you pretty much everything you need to know about this cartoonishly offensive, hilariously over the top "Grindhouse" inspired gore fest. Rutger Hauer is a hobo who hops off the train in a crime infested town. After several days of witnessing man's inhumanity to man on a constant basis, he takes it upon himself to clean up its streets. This is a dead-on funny love letter to the exploitation/splatter flicks of the 70s/80s, complete with tons of brutal violence, hammy (on purpose) acting, funky music, and gore galore. A total hoot!!

I love the scene where he's in the maternity ward with all the babies. Rutger Hauer is hilarious in that scene.

The whole movie is hilarious. If Troma had made "Death Wish 3" it probably would've looked something like "Hobo."

Commentary track of Best In Show.
Amazing that there were no actor rehearsals for this film Each actor was given the basic scene setup and some ideas to stress but there was no actual script; all the dialogue is improvised.
Same formula Christopher Guest used for This Is Spinal Tap.

"Metamorphosis" (1990)
Ultra-low-budget ripoff of Cronenberg's "The Fly," in which a university genetecist makes the poor decision to test his anti-aging serum on himself. Naturally, he slowly de-volves into a shambling, homicidal something-or-other.
This flick is glacially paced, poorly acted, and the "reveal" of the scientist's final "de-evolutionized" form is frickin laughable.
Some of you might remember seeing the VHS box for this one in video stores back in the day -- it had a button on the front which made the guy's eyes light up red when you pushed it. That was a better special effect than anything in the actual movie.
Final verdict: Avoid!!!

I just watched this movie and it's mind-blowing. It was marketed as a horror film but it's NOT a horror film at all. I highly recommend it.

If you're going to watch it be sure you don't read ANY SPOILERS! They will ruin the film.

Ooooh, "from the director of Creep?" I dug that flick. Will have to keep an eye out for this one. Thanx for the tip.
