"Pieces" (1983)
A chainsaw killer is chopping up co-eds on a college campus, and the most inept cops in film history are trying to stop him. Yup, that's the whole plot in this delightfully sleazy, pseudo-classic grindhouse flick. The acting is negligible, the dialogue is howlingly "WTF," the splatter flows hot and heavy and the ending makes no sense whatsoever. Released in 1983 but it looks like it was made in 1973. Whoever wrote this movie must really hate women, because they serve only two purposes in this flick -- to get naked and to get dismembered. Someone's got issues. Then again, I watched it so I guess I have issues too.
This flick has one of the coolest tag lines ever -- "YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO TO TEXAS FOR A CHAINSAW MASSACRE." Sho'nuff.

Damn. I enjoyed that first season -it wasn't great, but interesting, and certainly going places.
That's exactly how I felt about that show, too. Too bad. The shows that interest me seem to keep dwindling away. No wonder I hardly watch prime time tv.

An insider source says that Fox had to decide whether to renew Fringe or Alcatraz (they couldn't afford to keep both shows due to their large production budgets). Since Fringe has been on for 4 seasons and has a large cult following they decided to renew it for a final season so the producers could finish the storyline. I'm really glad they chose this route because I find Fringe to be a far superior show.
Alcatraz had it's moments, but it wasn't a very compelling show overall and it was bleeding viewers with each successive episode, the season finale having the worst ratings of the entire season.
J.J. Abrams has a new series called "Revolution" which will debut on NBC this fall. It's a sci-fi drama he co-created with Eric Kripke from "Supernatural".

Well I can certainly see Fox's viewpoint on it. Fringe seems like a my kind of show, I just never caught it. It's good to see a series actually be able to tie things up for it's loyal viewership. Maybe I'll catch it in syndication or on dvd.
At least Supernatural was renewed. And that new show you mentioned has piqued my interest.

"American Hardcore" (2006)
Interesting, enjoyable documentary that details the humble beginnings, the rapid rise and sudden fall of hardcore punk in the U.S. during the years 1980-86. Loaded with lotsa cool vintage (ultra-violent!) live clips and new and old interviews with members of Black Flag (Henry Rollins, as you might expect, has some great stories), Bad Brains, Circle Jerks, Adolescents, Battalion of Saints, and too many more to mention. Even though I was only a casual hardcore fan back in the day I still dug this flick. The "Get Thrashed" doc should've looked more like this.

I was there! Loudness was one of the best bands at the festival! They had the biggest audience of all the bands on the second stage. Putting Loudness on the second stage was a mistake. They should have been on the main stage.
RATT was fun - they got a great crowd reaction. RATT had a terrible mix at first, it took them a while to fix it. Cavazo's amp wasn't working right and it took them 4 songs to figure it out.
The new singer for Warrant sounds so much like Jani Lane that it's almost scary. I only watched part of their set (wanted to see Uncle Tom's Cabin live). Left the main stage when Cherry Pie came on so I could get a good spot for Lynch Mob (they played the second stage)

It was like an ultra-gory episode of a 1970s TV cop show. I don't know if I'd call it "disturbing" but it was certainly an experience. I'm still scratching my head over the totally random cameo by a Bruce Lee clone as the "Kung Fu Professor."

Nice! Love that flick. That's gotta be one of the "explodiest" action films ever made. Whatever the budget for it was, they must've spent three quarters of it on TNT.
