Yep, I saw it back then too, I remember being all creeped out by it as a kid but it certainly didn't age well.
Remember the cool-ass poster/VHS cover art for that flick?
Unfortunately, the Death Ship doesn't look anywhere near that bad-ass in the actual movie.

Here's how old I am. I saw Death Ship at a drive in paired with Phantasm.

"Death Ship" (1980) Very similar to the 2002 film "Ghost Ship," but with more stupid.

Ghost Ship was TERRIBLE. The only good sequence was the very beginning.

I actually kinda liked that one. Big, dumb, gory action packed fun.

Unfortunately the "dumb" outweighed the "fun" for me in that flick.

I thought the flashback sequence of the robbery/massacre on the ship before it disappeared was pretty bad-ass too.
Didn't know this till recently, but the little girl who played the "kid ghost" in that movie grew up to be the blonde hottie who played the lead in "Sucker Punch."

She (Emily Browning) also starred in the movie 'The Uninvited".

Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I really enjoyed this one, and there are a number of subtle references to the original film. And Rise of the Apes is a much better title, but those marketing execs figure their audience needs things spelled out

TV series renewal/cancellation notices, next week is the deadline to decide the fate of the remainder, but many shows have already been decided upon. Here's some of the bigger ones:
Cancelled: The Finder (Fox) Alcatraz (Fox) Cougar Town - not cancelled, but moving to TBS.
Renewed: Community (13 episode season) Castle Big Bang Theory Fringe (13 episode final season) Bones The Vampire Diaries 30 Rock (13 episode season) Supernatural New Girl Touch

Damn. I enjoyed that first season -it wasn't great, but interesting, and certainly going places. And New Girl gets renewed?!? What I've seen of it is lowest denominator crap.

The reason Alcatraz got cancelled was because the ratings continually declined every week after the pilot, the only thing that could have saved it would have been a great showing for the season finale...but it had the worst ratings of the entire season. That was an obvious indication to the network that people weren't interested.
Alcatraz was also a very expensive show to produce, so it was a simple business decision.
New Girl has great ratings and is very cheap to produce, so that's also a business decision.

"Evilspeak" (1981)
Clint "Ron's Brother" Howard is a nerdy, picked-on military academy cadet who gets revenge on his torturers with a little help from Satan... and a computer.
This early '80s cable favorite starts off slow but the last 20 minutes, featuring a possessed, levitating Howard loppin' off heads with a sword, a horde of man-eating pigs, and a chapel in flames, are an absolute freakin' hoot. I loved the vintage "video game" style computer effects too.
This high-tech (for 1981, anyway) gender-reversal of "Carrie" supposedly had Anton LaVey of the Church of Satan on the payroll (in an advisory role) and features blink-and-you'll miss'em roles for Richard "Night Court" Moll and Don "Bob from That 70s Show" Stark as one of Howard's bullies.
