I wonder if this version will contain one of the Top 10 movie lines of all time?

I think this movie should be interesting. Why do people care about the 3-breasted hooker so much? That's like having TMNT fans complaining that there's no Bebop and Rocksteady in the 2003 cartoon.

After reading more about this film it's geared more as a "re-imagining" than a remake, so I would expect it to be very different from the 80s version. I would love to think it might be closer to the original Phillip K. Dick story, but I seriously doubt it.

Judging from that new trailer, it looks like a re-make of the 80's film. Naturally, they've made it a little darker and grittier and removed some of the chessiness, but otherwise it looks like the same Arnold movie I remember.
Not saying that's good or bad. Just saying.

Today's paper gives the new "Total Recall" a two-star review.

About what I would expect. I usually just check out the metacritic score on IMDB to see what the general consensus is.

80s? The Total Recall movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger was actually released in 1990.

My bad, although it definitely still felt like an 80s movie.

"Dark Knight Rises" crushed this flick at the box office this weekend... cool, that means it'll go to DVD faster and I can therefore check it out sooner.

So I guess this movie kinda came and went with little fanfare, huh?
I don't watch that much tv these days and even fewer commercials, but I don't remember seeing much promotion for this movie at all. The most I heard about it was right here amongst us. And we just don't generate the box office revenue like we used to.

It bombed.
The budget for the film was $125 million, it only made $58 million at the box office in the U.S. A film like this needs positive word of mouth and this film didn't have that...even Phillip K. Dick's estate posted a letter blasting it.
I'm hoping enough of these remakes will bomb so that it will force the studios to start actually producing original scripts again.

Unfortunately it hasn't stopped the re-boot/remakes. Look what else Hollywood has dug up:
Ruckusfilm is planning a reboot/sequel to the "Ernest" comedy film series entitled "Son of Ernest" reports Variety.
The Ernest P. Worrell character, played by the late Jim Varney, appeared in nine films from 1987 to 1998 after he began life as a character in commercials.
Dan Ewen is penning the screenplay and will produce the film which centers on Worrell's long-lost son. Early discussions are already under way in regards to casting.
Clarke Gallivan, Coke Sams and John Cherry will produce.

NINE!?! Holy-sweet-tap-dancing-Jeebus!! And here we thought the idea of the Geico Caveman sitcom was stupid. No wonder other nations hate us.
