I was watching the Elijah Wood episode of Hot Ones… and toward the end, he announced that he is making a reboot of the Toxic Avenger. I’m actually surprised no one has done that yet! But I hope it’s old school special FX. Not lazy CGI crap!

Seems unnecessary, but you never, it might be good. And Dinklage is great in everything he's in.
That was my first reaction, "why?"
The first one is a "classic" in its tastelessness, cheesiness and gore FX. Any remake is going to HAVE to be inferior. Even the sequels to the original that Troma attempted fell woefully short of the mark.
Why not remake "Gone With The Wind" first? Or "Citizen Kane"? That would have just as much success potential.

I just revisited the original a few months ago. I can't imagine a remake coming anywhere close to its level of tastelessness.

The remake might be amusing with actors like Peter Dinklage and Kevin Bacon, but there is no way they will top the original. Like most other movies from the 70’s and 80’s… it was lightning in a bottle.

See, now that's an original idea (for a "re-imagining" anyway). I'd be all in for that, seems like a natural.
EDIT: The more I think about it the more possibilities I see here. There are a variety of ways someone could present the story. Maybe the Terminator comes back to save the world from a society where Robocops have gotten out of control and expect people to adhere to an unreal set of expectations. Or you could paint Robocop as the hero who tries to save the world because Robocops of the future eliminate Terminators. Or you could just play it straight as Robocop just happens upon a Terminator doing what they do to preserve the future of mankind and the two start fighting. I really like the concept.
As long as you don't get some FX-obsessed director to make it I see lots of potential in the idea.

Frank Miller (comics writer/artist and writer of "RoboCop 2" and "3") did a "RoboCop vs Terminator" comic book in the early 90s. It was pretty badass.
In the future, the human resistance learns that some of the same tech that created RoboCop led to the development of Skynet (the evil defense network in the "T" movies) so they send a soldier back in.time to kill Officer Alex Murphy before he ever becomes Robo.
...but of course things don't go as planned.

At any rate, more related to the topic, if "Hollywood" is just about totally devoid of completely original ideas (which apparently they are) and they're going to "remake" stuff, why not at least not re-imagine something new?
Remaking Toxic Avenger is just a bad, bad idea IMO. Anybody who's seen the original is just going to piss all over the half-assed effort the remake will inevitably be. I can almost hear it now, "Where's the kid getting his head run over by a car? Where's the bad guy being beat down with his own arm?". And on and on and on. All the stuff no major filmmaker would EVER have the balls to commit to celluloid now.

It’s almost certain that all the un-PC stuff will be omitted. And the gore will probably be lame CGI.
Let's not forget that there was once a "Toxie" cartoon show, complete with an accompanying toy line and a Marvel comic series... so if the remake sucks, it would not be the first time that Lloyd Kaufman has allowed the Toxic Avenger to be toned down for the mainstream:

I actually HAD that comic back when...

All the more reason to make it a feature film. The comic is the blueprint.
