| This was I wrote on Facebook while commenting on a friend's link:
It was kind of strange. I happened to be going through music files on my computer today and listened to a couple of Whitney's songs. My immediate thought was, her music wasn't holding up as well as some other artists from the 80's. So, I thought about it a while, and determined it had nothing to do with the songs themselves, but her life choices: Marrying Bobby Brown, doing drugs, and fleeing airport security. The last picture I saw of her a year ago, she did not look good at all. I'm guessing we'll find out her death is due to some concoction of drugs. I hope I'm wrong. Had her path never crossed that of Bobby Brown's, life might have looked a whole lot different for Whitney...

It's kind of funny, because I expect to hear these tragic stories within the metal community, where lives are cut tragically short. So many of the lyrics are steeped in emotional pain, which then get played out through that of addiction. Whitney had this angelic quality about her, but then she met Bobby Brown! I hate to say it, but she went from someone who was desirable to that of absolute gutter trash. Unfortunately her gaunt figure, indecipherable speech, deer in the headlights look was the memory people were left with.

| I'm not a fan, but she was quite talented and it's very sad. She made some really bad decisions, and they really hurt her career. | |

I have a dozen Etta James albums and have always loved her, and she overcame her drug habits to carve out a legendary career to the end. I have never owned any Whitney albums, but my mom and sis were huge fans and I heard a lot of her music in the house when I was young. Too bad she was never able to overcome her drug use and all the bad things fame and money brought her. Rest eternal.

| Never cared for her music but I cannot deny her talent, the woman was an incredible vocalist.
Her impact still resonates even if she has not made a decent showing on the Billboard charts for some time, if you ever sat and watched American Idol, you will notice how many so called singers try to do her vocal gymnastics and they all fail.

| wow, so I just found out about it. Sad, sad, sad....only 48. She was an incredible singer and even though I was never a fan, I knew she was gifted. I can't really say I saw it coming because other than the occasional glance at a People Magazine cover standing in line at the grocery store, I really didnt follow her career in tha last 5 or 6 or whatever years so I didnt know what her recent life was like. Still sad, though. | |

| I'm sure the Grammy producers have been up all night trying to figure out how to shoe-horn some sort of tribute to her into the awards show tonight.... _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Whether or not you were a fan of her music, no one could deny her talent. That woman could sing her ass off and as it's been mentioned she set many standards for pop vocalists up to the present. A very glamorous and gifted woman in her prime. It's always tragic to see anyone throw that away. RIP. | |

It's absolutely fantastic! The National Anthem from the 1991 Super Bowl was on a greatest hits release, which I have. It didn't hurt that we as a country were at war with Iraq to amp up the emotions with what would have been regardless a great rendition of the song. Since that night down in Tampa, every star's performance is held to the standard of that performance.

I'll always remember her saying that in an interview with Barbara Walters I believe. Such a sad story. Her music was hit or miss for me, but she was extremely gifted.
