I love Schon's quote about the new guy:
Arnel doesn't sound synthetic and he's not emulating anyone.
That kind of bugs me. The guy is an exact copy of Perry, and he does a great job of it, from what I can hear. I think it's a good move for the band, but that quote makes him sound like either:
a) He is stupid
or
b) He thinks we are stupid
We've heard these songs about a thousand times, Neal. We all know what they sound like.

This new guy is a big time steve perry clone - I guess JSS didn't sound enough like steve for neal's taste
On most of the your tube clips of JSS with Journey, you can hardly hear him singing because the crowd is singing so loudly
I do have the 2 cd essential journey CD and I like it (brings back memories of 8th grade!)

I love Journey. All eras. My favorite singer of theirs is obviously Steve Perry but a VERY close second is Steve Augeri. The only reason I don't Augeri better is just the history behind Perry. Augeri was in an excellent band years ago called Tall Stories. You can get their debut cheaply (got mine free, thanks Shiney!) and it is well worth checking out.
However this new guy has alot of work ahead of him impressing life long fans of the band such as myself.

Journey Rox.
I always loved journey the first time i heard "lights" in the car with my dad driving. Neal Schon gets no credit at all on the guitar and me personally thinks he is one of the best rock guitarists of that era.
Steve Perry def has some of the best vocals of that era too.
Wheel in the Sky, Lights, Don't Stop Believing, Seperate Ways all awesome songs..
I also dig Foreigner and Boston as well...

They played their first show with the new guy.
He may have a tone very similar to Steve's, but the dude is awesome! What a great singer. Check out the links to the rest of the show in the links on the actual page.

Hopefully this is cheap.

A new chapter in the legendary career of multi-platinum rockers JOURNEY — Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) and Arnel Pineda (vocals) — will begin on June 3 with the highly anticipated release of "Revelation", a three-disc CD and DVD package to be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores in North America.
The first disc will consist of 11 re-recorded classics, the second is filled with 11 new songs, and the third is a live, in-concert DVD. All of the music on "Revelation" was produced by Kevin Shirley (who previously worked with JOURNEY on their platinum-certified "Trial By Fire" album).

That Wal-Mart release will be about $12...
And "awesome" he's not. He's decent...and I wish him the best...but I don't see him lasting 2 tours before his voice is shot...

I am looking forward to this album and impending tour.
I'm not impressed by the Pineda guy either. I loved Steve Augeri almost more than Perry, and think he was forced out for some stupid reason.
I still think that they need to hear Line of Fire next time they need a vocalist.

And this is AFTER I was so disgusted with them later last year...after the JSS debacle...I'll check out the album, but my uber-fandom is reserved for Perry/Augeri material...I feel that, while the new material may be decent, it'll be bland...

Not a huge Journey fan, but I like selected songs here and there. Seperate Ways is a killer tune.
Never heard the pre-Perry stuff - probably should.

That's a really interesting interview with Herbie Herbert (what a name!), Journey's old manager. He seems to be quite outspoken; says a lot of negative things about the post-Perry singers (even Perry himself), but he likes the new guy. He says he's done a good job on the re-recordings and the new album.
If you read the entire thing, that bodes well for you guys who're worried about the upcoming album.

Well here you're talking about a singer competing with the world's greatest melodic vocalist at his prime in Steve Perry, so to come close is probably doing extraordinarily well.
Yes that's right. I think I agree with that completely. To come close and he comes better than close.

I absolutely hate Journey but I like REO quite a bit up through Nine Lives. Even Hi Infidelity has some good songs on it (also some real crap).

I love Journey. Love them ALOT. I've tried to track down every recording they ever made with Steve Perry......it's not healthy, honestly.
They're one of those bands that the critics loath (except for that Trial by Fire album which the critics actually liked), yet the music buying public LOVES them. And why not? They're a great pop band.
