They sounded different before they got popular, but when 12-year old kids started to like them with hits generating a million or two in YouTube, more and more people giving them the new monicker 'StudioForce' Their sound became stale and...uhm, boring....I don't hate 'em actually, it's just that there are plenty of under-appreciated bands that deserves more attention.
And Herman Li is overrated, he's the modern-day Kirk Hammett
Let me share a definition from URBAN Dictionary, I think its pretty funny
HERMAN LI (definition)
A title given to any wannabe, self centered guitar player. It is used to describe appaling playing where the most of the notes are being hidden by delay. Occasionally, the Herman Li is able to hide his talentless playing with distasteful pick scratching, video game sounds, and whammy pedal and bar use. The shear lack of any musical knowledge or skill is also applicable to the Herman Li.
The Herman Li is the epitome of a horrible guitar player. Those who try to kid themselves by thinking they can play guitar, who hide their true abilites by overlaying with delay, or who walk around with a sort of rooster eyed I-am-a-rockstar attitdue may be dubbed a Herman Li.
A live performance is the key in identifying Herman Li's. Those who cannot play what they claim to or what they have recorded are considered Herman Li's.
Nobody wants to be a Herman Li. It is the ultimate slap in the face to your musical skills. AVOID AT ALL COSTS to be a Herman Li, and by no means necessary may one play through the equipment the actual Herman Li uses or play the same material he plays.
The Herman Li is only cheating himself from real guitar playing. Do not be fooled by the phony guitar playing or egotistic antics. Unfortunatly if one is dubbed a Herman Li one can never be anything else, and that is just too bad.

I saw Dragonforce play in a small club before they became the flavor of the day, they kicked butt they were on, they played as well as the albums were, there were no problems during the show. It rocked, one of the best concerts I've been to.

I'm sorry but I really dont hear any difference in sound from Sonic Firestorm, to Inhuman Rampage, to Ultra Beatdown. The only problem I have with them is actually the fact their sound doesn't change enough. From what most people show, going from loving to hating Dragonforce is just the whole hipster ideology of "its popular now so I hate it"

I have purchased valley of the damned, in an additional attempt to develop a taste for this band, but it's not working.

The biggest difference to me was that the songs on Sonic Firestorm and some on Inhuman Rampage had melody to them. Ultra Beatdown just went on and on with no melody. It was almost the same song played over and over again. I like some dragonforce but i think they have steadily been getting worse. Call it hating if you like but i will stick with their early material.

Untrue. I thought they stunk way before they got popular... even though I generally dig most power metal.
They've got chops to spare but no soul.

I got a copy of DF's SONIC FIRESTORM to review for my friend's 'zine quite a while ago now (2003? 2004?)... That was a couple of years before they signed to Roadrunner and became all trendy. Anyway, I didn't like the album much, said so when I reviewed it, and within 24 hours of that review hitting the Web, my e-mail box was full of poorly misspelled hate mail from angry DragonForce fans with screennames like "TrueSteele" telling me "D00000d ur an idiot DF are TR00 METTLE GODZ!!11!!!!"
...so yeah, not only do I hate the band, I hate their fanboys too.

I've seen them live and loved them. Thought they sounded great and pulled off the songs just fine.
The sample that started this thread off sounds just fine to me. I like Dragonforce for who they are. I'm glad they're sticking to their formula.

If that song is any indication of the next one that is. I like this vocalist a little better as his voice is not as high as the other guy. IMO power metal has too many high pitched vocalists and we need some who bring it down a bit.

well i thought Ultra Beatdown was terrible. It was utterly boring. This has more melody and isnt as fast.

Sounds like the typical Lurideath analysis.
That's OK, it makes you you. This place wouldn't be the same without the overcritical Lurideath and Temple Of Blood. Its a good thing (no sarcasm in that statement BTW).

Well I have yet to hear Ultra Beatdown so take my opinion with that in mind. Who knows, when I do hear it I may not like it either.

I've seen Dragonforce play live twice and they rocked both times, and I even got to meet the band members the first time. I am still a big fan of this band and can't wait to get their next studio album. I like what little I've heard of their new vocalist so far, although I am really gonna miss their former singer!

Same here! I think it's Yngwie worship taken to the next level! Imagine twin Yngwies playing in Rising Force!
