Found this rough demo of one of their new recordings. The boy has some range, but I just find his voice a little too fluffy for dragonforce, and that's saying something.

You think a band as big as them would spend a year looking for someone who DIDN'T sound like the vocalist from every generic power metal band out there.

i guess the real question is does anyone expect anything different? all they really do is play something as fast as they can and hope it sounds cohesive...

Eli Prinsen (from The Sacrificed) auditioned, I beleive. And he got the best response from the ans. Guess it made more sense to hire someone living a little closer.

I'm surprised they didn't get Ripper Owens, like other bands on the rebound from losing a singer do.

The guys on the right side of the photo don't look like they fit into a band like Dragonforce. As far the vocals, meh, they could have done way better.

At first glance, I thought that they borrowed a few of Linkin Park's bandmates.

That's power metal, though. He sounds fine to me.

The Dragonforce hate is another annoying aspect of metal fandom. People loved these cats until they got popular, then they became the whipping boys of power metal. It's just lame.

I think Sonic Firestorm is an excellent album. The Ultra Beatdown was ultra boring.

I dont think anyone dosn't like them anymore because they are popular, they put out a really great debut album as far as euro power metal goes, and than slowly got worse and worse.

I guess that might be true overall, but I can at least say personally I didn't like them from the beginning.

If you all remember, I was a big defender of Dragonforce around here but that album even bored me and I haven't listened to it much after my first listen. Inhuman Rampage I also don't listen to much except for about three songs. However, the first two are great and I listen to them fairly often.

Im just wondering which genre would Dragonforce fit in...Commercial Power Metal? Power-core? It's a melting pot of Speed/Power/Progressive/AOR which is so hard to describe

Seems like a pretty suitable singer, to be honest. I saw him do one of his first gigs with DragonForce, supporting Iron Maiden, and he handled all the material pretty well.
He's ever so slightly jarring in that he is a traditional power metal singer, whereas ZP Theart was quite clearly more of a hard rock / Steve Perry type. That gave DragonForce a certain level of uniqueness in what is a very homogenous genre of music.
As for the hate? Undeserved. I do think their recorded material has a tendency to be a bit samey and occasionally weak (Valley of the Damned is the exception, that album is brilliant throughout), but they've always put on a hugely fun live show. Plus, the complaints of sloppiness no longer seem valid as they've really tightened up their performance.

i think the dislike is quite justified as after sonic firestorm each of their successive albums has gotten worse.

I like it. I was blown away when I first heard DragonForce (the Inhuman Rampage album). I mean flat-out blown clean away. I guess I just got used to them, and the style isn't my favorite genre. However, they are very talented guys, and I won't jump on the DragonForce hate bandwagon. This new stuff sounds pretty good to me.

I would put them in the stuff I don't dig genre. They have a good tune or two but not enough to put them into the stuff I dig genre.

I like it I was a big fan of them during and before the Inhuman Rampage album, the album after that sucked big time. This is the first I have heard the new vocalist a different dynamic than ZP I like the song certainly I will check it out if it is not some re-hashing of the past album formulas and songs I will get it
