New Ugly Kid Joe comin'...

They're back! According to SleazeRoxx, Ugly Kid Joe has just recorded an new album...

The reunited Ugly Kid Joe have completed a new album, their first since 1995's Motel California, drummer Shannon Larkin has confirmed.

The lineup for the sessions is Whitfield Crane (vocals), Klaus Eichstadt (guitar), Dave Fortman (guitar), Cordell Crockett (bass) and Larkin, the same lineup as their second album, 'Menace to Sobriety', according to Gibson.com's Peter Hodgson.

Larkin, who also is in Godsmack, revealed the album's status in an interview with California's 107.7 The Bone at the Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. "A lot of the songs, Klaus wrote in '98," Larkin said. "It's a fun band -- it's funny, you listen to the songs and it makes you laugh. Just a good-time rock band, y'know?"

Originally named Overdrive, the band became Ugly Kid Joe as a joke when booked to support Pretty Boy Floyd. The name stuck and they scored hits with "Everything About You," "Neighbor" and "Cat's in the Cradle." Guitarist Fortman, who joined in 1992, went on to produce Superjoint Ritual, Mudvayne, A Simple Plan, Evanescence and Slipknot. Fortman also mixed Anthrax's forthcoming album Worship Music.

Cool news. I didn't like MOTEL CALIFORNIA much but all of their other stuff, especially MENACE TO SOBRIETY, still gets spun pretty regularly 'round my place.

indeed ! Way cool to see they're back ! Much like Freddy, I think that Motel California is kinda weak but the rest of their releases are very enjoyable.

I liked them when they first came out. It'll be interesting to hear the new stuff after they've been gone for so long.

I like the debut ep and the first album ok, but the rest of their stuff did nothing for me. Interesting to see what they come up with after all this time, but I'm not getting my hopes up for anything spectacular.

Anyway, looking forward to this. I've liked them all, though Motel California was a few steps down from Menace to Sobriety. Another Animal, the other band Whitfield sings for, also have a new one coming out. Schweet!

They have a lot more than one goof song... but my point is they have a sense of humor.

Hope I get a review copy for my blog.... I liked these guys pretty well back in the day....

New song. Ever since Whit did Life Of Agony he kind of carried over that vocal style a little bit.

Not too crazy about the vocals, Whit is a great singer, I don't need to hear him borderline rapping. Also the song is decent but UKJ is capable of better.

Yeah, good song, but not amazing. And that's not borderline rapping.

Well, it didn't quite seem full on rapping so that's why I said borderline. At least it sounded that way to me.

Dont care for the song really. I know they can do better than that.

I get what you're saying. The cadence that he delivers the words and the childish lyrics, I'm reminded of Tommy Lee and Methods of Mayhem in the vocal department. The music's ok, I suppose.



Meh, I wasn't a big fan to begin with and this song isn't changing my opinion. The drummer's probably better off sticking with Godsmack if he wants to keep paying the bills.

I think its pretty good. a lot better than that first song they previewed.

Really dig that tune. Waaaaay better than the other one. But had I only heard the song, without knowing the band, I'd never have guess who it was. Whit is singing in a higher register, it seems. How weird. Great song, though.

And I have to ask. What the hell is Larkin doing at about 0:14? He does that twice. I don't get it.

Yea he almost sounds like Bon Scott. It is weird what he is doing with his voice. I don't know why he's singing differently. I always thought he had a great voice.

I saw that too with Larkin. I think he's trying to be like that "Drummer at the wrong Gig" guy. I also never noticed how skinny he was. Boys gotta eat lol

Switching which hand he's using for the hi-hat. He's also one of the only guys that I've ever seen play flawless double bass runs while standing up.

Shannon is an amazing drummer (probably seen Wrathchild about 20 times back in the day) and a really cool guy.

I used to have an old hardcore demo tape he recorded called "Rip Cl*t" in the late 80s, wish I still had it but it's long gone.
