Since I don't really consider myself a "metal fan"; I don't get bored with anything.

The day I get bored with any genre within the "hard music" category is the day I need to be put out of my misery.

I agree with other people on here.

Personally, I've been trying to finish up discographies on my favorite artists and starting/expanding my discographies on artists I enjoy but I have no CD's for. (e.g. King Diamond and Mercyful Fate)

There are several I hardly listen to now (e.g. I own a "Lost Prophets" and a "Kottonmouth Kings" cd) I got at discount when I was trying out new stuff, that I (while I am constantly heckled by my friends for owning it) nonetheless refuse to discard simply b/c I either liked it at one point and I posses a sense of 'ownership' of it.

As I am/was a fan of southern rock, prog/psych, garage rock, proto-punk and hardcore and a BIG fan of death rock and classic gothic rock I am never tired with metal per se as I don't listen to metal all the time.

Too much metal? I don't think so, just since joining this board a few months ago I have found so many new bands and types of metal that I will never catch up with all of it. I've been a metal fan since the early 80's and there is still so much I don't know or haven't heard.

I've really enjoyed most of the recent metal I've bought, both new bands and new stuff by old bands.
That being said though, I haven't been shopping or collecting recently because I can't afford it economically. The good thing is that I've got so much old stuff that I can revisit to get me through this rough patch.

Oh im defiantley not bored at all with metal.I meant by my original post is ill see so many bands on Encyclopedia Metallum that are early-mid 80s and look more glammy that play traditional metal but but by traditional i mean Judas Priest and such. Also newer bands i click on one and then i see another and another and so on and it seems to never end.lol

One can never 'finish' collecting metal, if one is a true collector. There is always that elusive white elephant, and there are always old bands to discover (and maybe a few new ones). My wife gave me two CDs for Christmas, both from the Benny Andersson Orkester (Swedish folk music from the former ABBA member and his current band). I am REALLY enjoying those things!

Actually, I wonder about my album mania. As I'm listening to something brand new, I'm anticipating getting something else. damn.

Never get enough of metal.

I spent the last five years building my collection, as it was lacking most of the essentials.

I'm more interested in old school material, especially american and german bands from the 80's. There is so much to discover, so i guess i won't be slowing down before a few years.

As for new releases. i'm ususally only interested in those of my favourite bands: priest, maiden, kiss, udo, accept, helloween, kreator, sodom, megadeth...

from your last two posts i gather youre talking about oversaturation by bands, and thats of the scene, which determines what music is there to listen to/collect. or just the fact that music creation in the post-industrial world has become commonplace as recreation and that it is increasingly simple, low cost, and easy in general to replicate the common sound.

Nothing wrong with that, man. I own some CDs myself that aren't anything near metal, and that's ok. Doesn't mean I'm "wimping out" or not a true metalhead.

Now if I said something like "Oh, yeah, I used to listen to metal back in the day", then I never was a real metalhead to begin with. It was just a trend for me, or just a phase in my youth.

Glad that's not the case! headbanger

I'm actually wondering where my collection will go when I die. I told a friend of mine he could have it all all he has to do is come get it and box it all up.

No kids to leave it too? I just assume my son will inherit mine some day and sell it off for whatever it is the teens in the future will be into.

this is one of the reasons i enjoy having "living" music collection that reaches out to hundreds of people throughout the world and enriches their experiences so even when im dead and gone i know i made a difference with all the work i put into amassing what i did.

You can get sick of any music genre if you listen to it exclusively over a long period of time, obviously,so I also enjoy Hawkwind's space rock.I got into Teena Marie just before she died, 50's singer,Shelly Fabares, Noise merchants Melt Banana, Pat Benetar,Hall and Oates, and just when I'm absolutely burned out on metal of all kinds,I discover Vektor's amazing Black Future album and I can't stop listening to it.

I'm in that spot now. Nothing new is really hitting the spot for me metal-wise these days so I've hardly bought any metal this year. So I've been exploring other genres lately and have been pleasantly surprised.

I feel the same way. I haven't went completely off the metal map though. I wouldn't venture off to anything out of the rock genre though just other variations of rock and metal. I don't like Jazz, Blues, Rap, Country etc.
