Favorite metal subgenre?

I would have made this a poll, but there's just too many of them.
What is your favorite metal subgenre? You can choose up to 3, but only because I can't narrow it down past two
Mine are:
Progressive metal & melodic power metal!

The simplest answer I can give you is that I don't care about sub-genre classifications.

What matters most to me as a listener is how good the band sounds. If I like it then they could be folk-black metal and I'd rank them alongside thrash or other sub-genres.

Metal is metal and I want to experience it all without imposing any boundaries on what sub-genres I'll listen to.

There's also a flip-side to this: every sub-genre has maybe 20 - 30 (I'm being generous) influential, classic, creative, innovative sounding bands. The rest just copy what those widely known bands have already achieved. It all ends up sounding samey, diluted and devoid of content - by the time you get to the 500th power metal band it feels like you're listening to a poor man's version of Helloween.

It's all heavy metal.

Traditional metal under the condition that it includes USPM, i.e. early Fates Warning, Savatage, Queensryche, etc.

Power metal.

Does 'traditional heavy metal' even count as a SUBgenre of METAL? I mean, Judas Priest is just heavy metal. Something that evolved from hard rock.

Just like Chuck Berry plays rock'n'roll and all the other 'rock' stuff we get nowadays is just subgenres of rock'n'roll. Including hard rock.

Of course rock'n'roll is just a subgenre of pop music...

I like a lot of stuff..

I love all heavy metal (not that I like every band--but I like bands that fall into the various genres). But what I listen to the most:
--thrash
--death metal

Hair/glam/pop (whatever you wanna call it!)

Melodic power metal
progressive metal
thrash

Its all good but Thrash is my favorite obviously

brutal death metal & grindcore

Glam metal and thrash metal is what i most like beside pure HEAVY METAL.

I like a lot of different sub-genres.

black metal, followed by thrash metal. groove metal and stoner metal are probably my least favorite subgenres. lately ive also developed an itch for technical brutal death metal, but when it comes to my listening habits, theyre all over the board unless its one of those days/weeks where its just black metal 24/7.

Alternative Rock, Progressive Rock
