| Boston is the first band I think of when discussing outstanding debut albums.
Another one is:
The Cars - S/T
Queen's S/T is great too IMO. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Guns and Roses though I do like some of the later stuff. Boston is a good one too. Galactic Cowboys JOP the others are good but the first one was magic. |

| Are you guys seriously saying that f.ex. "Kill 'em All' is soooo good that anything Metallica released after pales in comparison?
I can understand having it as a favorite, but I would never say that they were unable to live up to, or follow it p with something just as good. Same goes for many of the other albums mentioned here.
The only album I can think of, is Guardian's debut. _________________

| Though I love the catalogue of all three, I still think their debuts are well beyond everything that followed.....

It set the standard for thrash at the time. And the songs rule! Like Motorhead on steroids. But i love the next three albums as well...

But i love the next three albums as well... Yeah, what Troublezone said. Metallica's next three releases certainly don't pale in comparison. Thought of another one today. That would be Jag Panzer's Ample Destruction.

Yeah, what Troublezone said. Metallica's next three releases certainly don't pale in comparison.
Thought of another one today. That would be Jag Panzer's Ample Destruction. I thought that was the premisiss (sp?) for the thread; bands that released over-the-top debut albums that never never was able to follow up in the same manner. _________________

it falls into that grey territory for me: Dio was an established artist when this was released but technically it is his debut under his own band. _________________

I am not sure if I agree with this or not because I felt 'Last In Line' was just as good if not better, these first two Dio albums are gold in my book. I like all of Guns N Roses albums but I have to agree with ToB they never matched the greatness of their debut album.
