I know Shawn Pelata knows what I'm talking about here! Bands like Journey, Bad English, Eclipse, Khymera, Brother Firetribe, Sunstorm, Place Vendome, Survivor, and H.E.A.T., just to name a few. I am on a major AOR kick today!
That's]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=os3f-6VHBzc&feature=related
That's one band I still need to check out! Thanks!

Album Oriented Rock
Somehow it morphed from the definition of a radio station's format into a genre description for melodic hard rock.

I like many of the SURVIVOR albums, JOURNEY, REO SPEEDWAGON, KANSAS AOR sounding albums, BAD ENGLISH two albums, BAD COMPANY 80s AOR albums and a long etc...but i am not very much into 90s or 00 aor, it doesnt give me me the right feeling when i listen to those new bands of AOR. H.E.A.T is an exemple of that.

Love me some cheesy arena rock! Styx, Bad Company (if you can really call them that) and Survivor are my favorites.

I'm a fan of AOR as well. It must be said however that alot of these bands mentioned here and by other dudes above were different in the 70's than the mid 80's. Styx was anything but AOR in the early to mid 70's (with the exception of "Lady"), Triumph wasnt really ever AOR except for a couple songs off "Thunder 7" and Surveillence. REO Speedwagon wasnt AOR until "Hi INfidelity". and Bad Company wasnt AOR until the late 80's and Kansas maybe had a handful of songs that were AOR. Maybe I'm missing the true definition of AOR, to me it's the blending of pop and hard rock, very listenable to the point of your sister knowing most of the lyrics of the songs.
Foreigner was probably the epitome of AOR rock, even in the 70's.

I have been on an '80's Rainbow and House of Lords kick lately. That's some good AOR in my opinion. Peace.

You don't get much better than those 2 for 80's AOR.

Anybody remember Tyketto? Excellent AOR band and Danny Vaughn who is the singer has done some solo stuff as well as a band called, From The Inside. From The Inside also has Jimi Bell on guitar.

Yeah, I have his Traveller project and one of the FTI discs! Great stuff! Not too familiar with Tyketto yet, though.

Y & T early on was traditional metal and then moved more into a hair band sound. I don't put them in AOR.
Tyketto was Vaughn's band in the 80's and pretty rare.

Yeah, its strange that this doesnt happen with heavy metal, glam metal or thrash for exemple. I like many bands of the 90s or of today that play music like that but AOR bands i like them only from the 80s, very strange. FOREIGNER is an other fave of mine.
