| HEIR APPARENT comes to mind, among any others.
Thoughts?

| For some strange reason that happens to all bands Ripper Owens joins. He is a great singer but I have yet to hear him sing on a great album. | |

Yeah. But I loved him on WINTERS BANE - "Heart of a Killer". Still his best release. Releases featuring him tend to be of spotty quality, and more so lately than before.

I also liked his Beyond Fear album. Quite basic but powerful metal.

Her solo stuff is so boring. And those cover tracks...my God! Horrid. Haha.

| Many albums featuring Joe Lynn Turner, David Coverdale or Glenn Hughes come to mind...

I'd agree with that. While I really enjoy his work, overall it's a bit on the inconsistant side as of late. I'd also like to add latter day Geoff Tate to this list. Such potential, but weak songs/albums. _________________ I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too.

I could never say such a thing to anyone who was in Deep Purple!

I could never say such a thing to anyone who was in Deep Purple! Just because you are a great singer and can sing DP songs doesn't mean you can write great songs. That's the whole point of this thread.

Gee whiz just defending one of my scared cows, anyway I think in the case of Coverdale and Hughes he is referring to their post Deep Purple work. As far as Joe Lynn Turner I liked the stuff he co-wrote with Blackmore with Rainbow and his one shot album with Deep Purple.

| I love the stuff Hughes did with Tony Iommi. Also like the Hughes-Turner Project.
I think Queensryche have quite a few albums that I find lackluster, though I think that Tate is (or was) a great singer. _________________ ULTIMATUM - TOO METAL FOR WIKIPEDIA!

| This will be an unpopular opinion, but HELSTAR was the first band to come to my mind. Other than "Nosferatu" and "..Thunder" the band's discography is awfully samey and forgettable. But James Rivera keeps the band afloat and interesting-ish. |

| I personally like most of the material that Ian Gillan, David Coverdale, Glenn Hughes and Joe Lynn Turner have all done since they did their time with Deep Purple, some of their projects I like more then others. | |

| I love "Seventh Star". Haven't explored Hughes solo stuff as much.
If those later QR albums had been Tate's only output then no one would be describing him as some sort of vocal wonder because he never shows it. That's different than, say, HEIR APPARENT where the singer is obviously very good but the tunes are so boring that it doesn't even matter.

| The one I agree with their is Turner. He has been on some ok albums like the Sunstorm stuff but the music got kind of boring. |

True. He doesn't hit those high notes anymore, but he still sings (boring) songs like he means it, IMO. He still has good delivery...

| I`ll throw in two more. Both Jorn Lande and Rob Rock are great singers, but most of their solo stuff is not more than decent because of lackluster songs. | |

| I can agree with Jorn, I really only like the Allen/Lande stuff. As for Rob, you be crazy. |

| The first two Grim Reaper albums, although I think the third was a huge improvement in songwriting (mostly because they left behind those really repetitive choruses). Holy Terror is about 90% Keith Deen for me as well, although they do have some good guitar leads. | |

I agree for the most part. Jorn's solo matrial has some good songs but overall not as good as Masterplan or Allen/Lande material. And yes, he is crazy when it comes to Rob, but I can understand where he's comming from.

| Eric "A.K." Knutson. First two albums are consistent-after that they wasted his talent and wrote really BAD music. | |

True. He doesn't hit those high notes anymore, but he still sings (boring) songs like he means it, IMO. He still has good delivery... The "boring" stuff is his actual musical preferance since he admits that he never liked metal. Even though his vocal prowess on the early Queensryche albums put him on the map. Go figure...
