"Die Hard 2" ...John McClane is "up to his ass in terrorists again," this time at Dulles Int'l Airport in Washington DC. I think I actually like this one better than the original "DH." Great fun.

"Transformers" (2007) I mentioned in another thread a few days back that I have been intending to re-visit this one for some time, even though I wasn't very impressed when I first watched it a few years ago.
Well, I got about an hour into this flick last night and I was so bored that I actually turned it off, which is something I rarely, if ever, do. OK, so the movie has got a nice, slick, music-video kinda look, lotsa stuff blows up, the special effects are insanely good, and Megan Fox looks fabulous of course, but the "story" (Is there even a "story?" If so I couldn't find it amongst the constant sounds of metal clanging together) was absolute nonsense.
Seriously folks, I made it through "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" for cryin' out loud, but I wasn't able to watch the last half of "Transformers." I think that says a lot. Time will tell if I even bother to go back and finish it.
If nothing else, this experience has shown me how, errr, "out of step" my taste in movies is when compared to the so-called "mainstream."
Screw this movie. Next time I'm in the mood for giant robot action, I'm reaching for "Robot Jox," which is 10X better but probably cost less to make than the "Transformers" crew paid for Megan Fox's hairdresser.

Last night, the baby fell asleep on my chest, so while I was pinned to the couch I watched 'Good Morning, Viet Nam' for the first time in many years.
Pretty good flick. I tend to like Robin Williams in more serious roles, even if he was chewing on the scenery in some parts.

Watched the rest of "Transformers" last night -- it was just as ridiculous as the first half.

My 8 year old watched the last half hour or so of it with me - he knows the characters and their back stories better than I do, so he enjoyed it way more than I did. "Oh, cool, Ironhide is gonna kick some butt now!"
But as for me -- ehh, this is the second time I've given this movie/franchise a chance and in the end -- not a fan.

"Burnt Offerings" ...a '70s flick from Dan Curtis (of "Dark Shadows"), in which a family rents a creepy old house for the summer and then slowly (VERY slowly) become affected by the place (and by the mysterious old lady who supposedly lives upstairs, but is never seen) in various disturbing ways.
Atmospheric but ultimately pretty dull flick that is kinda like a lower watt, less intense version of "The Shining," which came along a couple of years after this.

Took the kids to see Yogi Bear - they loved it. Me, on the other hand..... Well, went to the Alamo Cinema Drafthouse and a few drinks. The golden shower joke wasn't even very funny - yes, they added a joke about "water sports"

"Black Christmas" (1974)
...nasty little '70s shocker about a group of college girls who are victimized by an obscene phone caller/home invader/slasher at their sorority house during the Christmas holiday.
Pretty dated now, but still a cool flick that many horror geeks credit for truly establishing the "rules" of slasherdom (it pre-dated "Halloween" by a few years). Great performances by Margot Kidder, Olivia Hussey, and the great John Saxon (as ... you guessed it... a cop. Haha.)
Ironically enough, director Bob Clark would go on to do the warm-n-fuzzy holiday classic "A Christmas Story" a few years after this!!

Oh yeah, that one's a classic slab-o-cheez. When it was first released, PTA groups nationwide banded together PMRC style and ran it out of theatres in just over a week. When I rented it on VHS circa '86 or so the box had a big sticker on it that said "The Movie THEY didn't want you to see!"

There were actually 5 (!) "SNDN" films.
"2" was made up mostly of recycled footage from the first movie, with some new footage added (the best known "new" part is the classic "GAAAARBAGE DAAAAAAY?" scene).
Parts "3," "4" and "5" were all straight to video productions, and they were all pretty much universally godawful.
Interesting ironic note about SNDN Part 5 ("The Toy Maker") -- it starred Mickey Rooney, who had been one of the most vocal opponents of the first movie and who had written a letter of protest to its producers when it came out.
