Soundgarden and Down

Anyone else the tiniest bit upset with their new offerings?

Rumors have been around for a long time re: a new album. What do they release? A greatest hits compilation. I love their stuff but you've only released 3 albums.....
Soundgarden:
You release a double album with 24 tracks.(5 are new). I can't wait to hear them but come on....
Just ranting, but two of my favorite bands are coming out with new albums and include a total of 5 new songs is a bit disappointing.......
On the upside I understand Sodom will release a new one in a month that we'll get in January here in the states.

Well, Soundgarden are taking things slow. I think even those new songs are not actually "new", just "new to us". They had not really made any plans past the couple of shows they have played. Now that those are over, their actual future is up in the air.

I wasn't aware of that release. Did they at least tack on a new song or 2 to make the purchase worthwhile?

On the question about Down..

According to various interviews I've seen with Phil, yes a new Down album is in the making but no word on when it will be released.

The other thing you gotta remember is Phil has a lot of various side-projects happening and he is unpredictable when it comes to those side-projects. When he finds something he likes he'll endorse it and probably even take part in it so that may sidetrack a new Down release.

However, there is a live album / dvd package being released soon. Not sure if there will be any new studio recordings found on there though

I couldn't find any info on a Down compilation/greatest hits disc. They are releasing a live album, which according to the track listing, is a pretty decent overview of their 3 albums, but not necessarily a "greatest hits" package.

I hope Phil tones down his between song rants on this live album. He has a tendency to run-off at the exepletive-filled mouth about how great he is.

The soundgarden thing is pretty cool. I just got it yesturday and yea I have all the songs except for those few which are cool but some are live versions which soundgarden never really appealed to me live. I had a live bootleg cd of them once and it was horrible. Chris Cornell just sounded really annoying and the whole band was just sloppy. But the new cd is cool. Get the one with the 2 cds and dvd. I haven't watched the dvd yet but it has all the videos and even some unseen ones.
