Ever listened to "Holy Blood"? That will give you an idea of what folk-metal is. I consider it a legit genre although it is rare I see somebody refer to it. No I have not heard Holy Blood but I will check them out when I get home tonight

I wasn't going to admit this, but It's about the only kind of metal I flat out dislike. It makes me feel like I'm paying some geek to heckle me at a Renaisance Festival.

| hmm, uhh
1. classic heavy/speed metal 2. European power of varying heaviness 3. progressive metal (not 'prog', actual progressive metal, even verring into the avant-garde) 4. gothic metal
*slight drop*
5. death metal (mostly old school, some of the br00tal stuff is good) 6. black metal (although it's filled with suck lyrics) 7. basic thrash (I usually want more variance than a strict example of the term allows...I gravitate towards things flirting with DM like Sodom, or experimenting like Believer.... and then it is also usually filled with suck lyrics) 8. industrial/electronic stuff (love the idea but there is usually way too much nu-influence, mallcore ideas everywhere..as with a lot of these further down, it's hard for me to find stuff I like)
*big drop*
9. "melodeath"...I love like 4 albums, and then there is a huge glut of stuff I don't care about. 10. folk metal..it manages to screw itself up somehow about 99% of the time, and it's usually irritating 11. glammy or bluesy hard rock metal stuff (I generally cannot relate to this music in any way..generally) 12. metalcore (almost complete fluff, relies on screaming, production values, and watered down melodeath stuff like guitar harmony VS breakdown to sound 'heavy'.....not impressed) 13. groove/nu/stuff that happened because of Pantera....no use for this music, colorless and bland

| Um... anything that doesn't suck.
Yeah, that'll cover it. Genre labeling gives me a migraine. "Well, this band is Power Metal, and this band is Euro Thrash Metal, and this band is Folk/Death with Epic Elements, and this band is New Epic Speed Power Thrash Punk Funeral Doom Christian Metal with a touch of dill..." _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| Not one person has mentioned that "Core" is in their top ten - hmm be it metalcore, deathcore or Blackcore! My top ten styles are : 1 Pagan or Folk Metal - I love the Atmosphere of these bands, like Eluveitie Tyr, .. 2 Doom - Another style with alot of Atmosphere, stuff like Candlemass, Trouble, .. 3 Unblack - Satanic Metal Sucks! IMO - Again I love the Atmosphere of the style. 4 Death - Especially the Atmospheric variety. See a theme I love music with lots of Atmosphere 5 Trash / Speed - Fell in love with stuff like Testament COC 6 Hair - What can I say I grew up in the late 80's and early 90's 7 Grunge - This is what replaced the hair metal of my youth. we went from a group of people who wanted to party all night to one to a group with great angst! 8 Power - Classic stuff like Iron Maiden, Dio, 9 Southern - Being an southern boy I love the sounds of Dixie! HAHAHA 10 Prog - I love the multiple time changes. + one 11 Industrial - True death march music.

| wow, I didn't even notice it was supposed to be a 10 list. I just kind of started typing and then I got done. I noticed that I forgot to mention doom; that's how little I care. No, really. The thing about doom is that if it isn't stoner, which I don't typically like, I just don't usually find pure doom bands that are more interesting to me than other bands who utilize doom elements. I don't dislike doom. But I connect far more to say what the drone stuff does with that influence than I do with say Saint Vitus. The expression is usually just too middle of the road for me to get into..hm. | |
