| Anyone know how many groups/artists can be inducted per year? Is there a "set" number? _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I didn't see anyone post a link for the fan voting. Here it is. You can vote for up to 5 artists.
At the moment, the top 5 are Nirvana (15%), Kiss (13%), Deep Purple (12%), Yes (10%), Peter Gabriel (9%)

| I would have no problem with any of these acts getting in. The HOF is what it is, but this is a pretty good group of nominees IMO. Probably the first time I've ever owned a recording for every artist nominated. | |

| Deep Purple Kiss Nirvana Peter Gabriel Yes
I agree that Nirvana is probably a slam dunk. I am not a huge fan, but "Teen Spirit" was a game-changer. Cobain's suicide is the icing on the cake (the shine on the trophy?). Deep Purple should have been in long ago. And Kiss, particularly Ace, has probably inspired more kids to pick up a guitar than anyone else. I'd love to see prog rock get another nod in the form of Yes or Peter Gabriel.

| Nirvana is a slam dunk to get in and due to that I didn't vote for them. I liked Nirvana back in the day, but I never felt like they were the second coming like many of their "uber" fans.
I voted for:
The Replacements Hall & Oates KISS Deep Purple Yes

| I voted Deep Purple, KISS, and Yes. Not that the others aren't good and undeserving. I just voted my favs off the list. | |

| I want Yes to get in because that opens the door for King Crimson (who should already be in the hall based on influence alone), Jethro Tull, etc. |

That would be just incredible if Jethro Tull got in. But there are so many members, something like 28 I think that theoretically would be eligible.

| Yes has had 19 members over the years themselves:
Chris Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White, Geoff Downes, Jon Davison, Jon Anderson, Tony Kaye, Peter Banks, Bill Bruford, Tony O'Reilly, Rick Wakeman, Patrick Moraz, Trevor Horn, Trevor Rabin, Eddie Jobson, Billy Sherwood, Igor Khoroshev, Benoit David and Oliver Wakeman. |

| Nirvana are probably the most obvious inductees, but I don't think it's that deserved. If Kurt Cobain hadn't committed suicide, would anyone really be talking about them much anymore? I don't think so. | |

No, we would not - they would be talked about for having a huge selling album that did change popular music (much like Appetite), but Cobain wouldn't be talked about in the same breath as Hendrix, Morrison or Bon Scott......

| This is a tough choice, IMO Yes should be in the Hall, even if you hate prog rock, you can't deny their influence, hell their name basically synonymous with prog rock | |

| I'm seeing a lot of enthusiasm for bands to be inducted other than Kiss. I'm...confused. I would think they take top priority at this point so late in the game. | |

Maybe because they've been on the ballot before, Im not much of a Kiss fan myself but despite that I still voted for them not to mention this community represents maybe a very very small number of people who vote and not everybody feels the same. I think they should have been inducted along time ago.

Love or hate 'em, 'Nevermind' was a complete game changer

| My guess for the lack of enthusiasm for Kiss has to do with the fact people probably already assume they must be in already. I know I always make that mistake.
As far as Nirvana goes, I'm a big fan and readily acknowledge their impact but three albums and a very short career offsets their game changing as far as what I'd consider for a "Hall Of Fame". To me a HOFer should have a big discography and a long existence. But that's just my take. My feeling is that if Cobain doesn't commit suicide (although the drugs were just a slower means to that end for him on any account) then he probably uses his name and clout to back other artists or maybe even starts another band. At worst (if still married to Courtney) he puts something together as "Nirvana". Death has that strange way of mythologizing famous folks. I have a hard time seeing him alive today as anything other than say an Eddie Vedder or a Billy Corrigan.

Love or hate 'em, 'Nevermind' was a complete game changer agree. I think the RnR hall of fame should be about impact and influence, not a popularity contest. It should represent not only the history, but also the best of the movers and shakers of that thing called RnR. We already have Billboard, which catalogs the popularity of music/artists through the years. Its easy to crunch numbers and figure out who sold/charted better than their peers. The hall of fame should represent the story of RnR.

| The Sex Pistols only released 1 actual studio album, but that record is still considered a game changer to this day. That would be an instance of an artist without a long discography who despite that are still considered legendary 35+ years since their one album was released.
Number of albums doesn't matter, it's the impact of the albums that were released that really matters. |

A friend of mine who is as much of a defender of punk as I am metal claims RnR, at least in the punk world, should be about brevity, not longevity. One or two albums and a crash and burn is very rock and roll. An interesting viewpoint that I don't completely agree with, but it does have some merit, particularly with the aforementioned Sex Pistols. I'm sure we can all think of a few bands that are still around that should have quit after their glory days...
