| I wish Newsted would have stayed with F & J. After Cliff the bass player is just there to do what he's told and Jason was always known as the guy who replaced Cliff, not for his own efforts. |

...and at the same time F&J have been forever damned to be known as "the band Jason left to join Metallica" _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

Because he had the unfortunate luck of joining a band of drunks who had just lost one of their best friends. |

I watched this a few weeks back. He talks about his plans in the future with this interview, along with his experience w/Metallica at the Hall of Fame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ir-VAlzF8F0

| both are talented bass players. jason is not as bad as people make out. maybe people resent him for disrupting the band | |

| Jason for me as well. I personally like Jason better then any of the bassists Metallica had. Yes, he wasn't as gifted as Cliff or maybe even Robert but I loved his style and charasmatic attitude. He loved doing what he did and it was like a dream come true to him.
I also think he is way underrated as well. He has serious skills but in Metallica it always seemed to be in the background. Him in Flot and Voivod you could really hear how amazing he was.

| I think Trujillo is a better fit because of the fuller sound he generates (similar to Cliff in that aspect).
Newsted is definitely underrated but he never could shake the stigma of being a replacement. I never could see him as an equal in the band for some reason. It always seemed like he was some fan who won a contest to play in his favorite band for a week but it turned into 14 years. I don't know much about his time in Voivod but he didn't write anything for the first Echobrain album (the only one he was on). Guitarist/vocalist Dylan Donkin wrote all those tracks.

I don't think Kirk has that much influence even. Just listen to St.Anger, and the lack of solos. Watch "Some Kind Of Monster" and hear him tell them he wants solos, and they just ignore him. Trujillo is being overcompensated as a co-writer just to make sure they don't treat him they way they did Jason. When Lars and James have written the songs, they are written. The others just play on them. _________________

I think he has some influence, but James and Lars realize that they are the voices of the group, and since Kirk has always been this calming influence; he more or less gets walked over. If you watch that scene in "Some Kind of Monster", it's the one time where I've actually seen Kirk get fired up. If you look at Lars, that moment takes him by surprise. Kirk didn't say he wanted solos, he stated that if they (Metallica) didn't include solos in that record, then the band would be treading on what was this trendy thing bands were doing, which was not including solos. Kirk was concerned about being lumped in with that trend. I guess I'm surprised that he was worried about that, since Metallica had more or less been following trends for the previous decade.
