With the Kiss Korner, I hope the selection of Kiss C.D's is a lot better. Their current selection at Walmart SUCKS!
The CD selection at Wal-Mart sucks for EVERYONE, not just for Kiss.
But when Wal-Mart was pimping the exclusive deal with AC/DC last year, they put up big displays in the center aisle of the stores with tons and tons of copies of the BLACK ICE album, and lots of the back catalog too... I would imagine they'd do the same for KISS. In fact, I'm sure Gene $immon$ would insist on it.
For whatever reason, I noticed that the Wal-Mart in my area always had a great selection of AC/DC, even prior to "Black Ice" coming out. When I was replacing my AC/DC collection with the remastered series, I only had problems finding "Flick of the Switch" and "Fly on the Wall" at times. Unfortunately with Kiss, I usually only see "Double Platinum" or "20th Century Remasters", along with a couple of other comps. It would be cool to see if the KISS C.D's mirrored the prices that Wal-Mart has with AC/DC and their catalog.

This is gonna be an AWESOME package! I'm pumped about the re-recorded stuff finally being available domestically, and about the new dvd!
Taken from a post on Metal Sludge:
KISS manager Doc McGhee has confirmed to Classic Rock magazine that the band's new album will be titled "Sonic Bloom" and that it will be released exclusively through Wal-Mart stores in the U.S. as part of a package including a disc of re-recorded KISS classics (already available in Japan) and a live DVD.
Due on October 6, "Sonic Bloom" features the following track listing:
01. Modern Day Delilah 02. Russian Roulette 03. Never Enough 04. Yes I Know (Nobody's Perfect) 05. Stand 06. Hot & Cold 07. All The Glory 08. Danger Us 09. I'm An Animal 10. When Lightning Strikes 11. Say Yah
Commented Classic Rock's Geoff Barton: "KISS promised to deliver a back-to-their-roots album and that's exactly what we've got. Recorded in the old-fashioned, analog way, it sounds spectacularly good — no ProTools nonsense in evidence here.
"The interesting thing is, it's not simply a homage the band's first few albums. There are even nods to records such as [1982's] 'Creatures Of The Night', which had Vinnie Vincent on guitar. KISS seem to have cleverly combined the best of all their eras into a single winning package."
The editor of Guitar Player magazine, who had a chance to preview five songs off the LP last month, wrote about the new KISS material, "Paul [Stanley, KISS guitarist/vocalist] sings his ass off. Eric [Singer] plays some amazingly powerful drums. Gene [Simmons] was finally made to play all of his bass parts (apparently, in the past, if someone had a cool bass idea, he let them play it), and he DOES have a pretty driving sound. Finally, Paul and Tommy's [Thayer] guitars sound HUGE — with some fab riffs and '70s-style solos."
Thayer wrote and sang his first song on the album, while Singer also got his first opportunity to sing a lead vocal on an original song.
Simmons recently told The Canadian Press that there were no outside writers working on the Paul Stanley-produced disc. He also described the album's sound as "no strings, no keyboards, no synths, no tambourines, no nothing — just meat and potatoes."
“I actually wanted to make Sonic Boom available as a download for a dollar, but I was overruled,” McGhee chuckled.
“I still think it’s a great idea. Millions of people would’ve downloaded it, I guarantee. At just a dollar a throw, it would’ve been the bargain of the century.”
McGhee is delighted that Kiss decided to play to their strengths on Sonic Boom. “It’s exactly want people want: the classic Kiss sound played by the band looking like they’ve always done. Kiss are like James Bond or Mickey Mouse. They’re an amazing brand and they’ll likely go on forever.
“When I took over management of Kiss in the mid-1990s, that was my major plan: to get the band back to basics.
“I mean,” McGhee laughed, “when Kiss had a squirrel in their line-up – what was the hell was that all about?”
Here’s our quickfire reaction to the six songs we heard:
Modern Day Delilah Based around a lumbering, War Machine-style rhythm, Paul Stanley’s vocals sound top-notch and timeless, almost like they’ve been sampled from Kiss Alive! Meanwhile, Tommy Thayer’s guitar work is straight out of the Ace Frehley riff book. At a concise 3:35 in length, this is a perfect slam-bang beginning to the new album.
Russian Roulette Gene Simmons takes the vocals on this one; it’s an archetypal lumbering, grumbling, pummelling offering, made all the better by the addition of a signature ‘ah-ah-ah-ah’ chant-line. The lyrics are simplistic but effective: ‘This is Russian Roulette… one pill of the trigger is all you’re gonna get… you feel the hunger and it’s much too much… go on take a bite.’ To a fan of classic Kiss, that’s sheer poetry.
Never Enough You’re know you’re on to a winner immediately as this one begins with a time-honoured Stanley shout of… wait for it… ‘Woah yeah!’ This is a much jauntier offering than the preceding two tracks, recalling the more commercial, 1980s side of Kiss. The song has a real reach-for-the-sky spirit, full of uplifting phrases such as ‘rules just for breaking’, ‘life for the taking’ and (you guessed it) ‘love ’til I’m shaking’.
Yes I Know (Nobody’s Perfect) Another three minutes of perfection. A light-hearted, hyper-commercial tune with Simmons at the mic-stand again, offering a gruff ‘YEAH’ (capital letters, natch) followed by the inevitable invitation: ‘C’mon baby, take off your clothes.’ There’s no word on whether Simmons kept his T-shirt on, however.
Stand Our favourite so far; a proper anthem recalling the crowd-rousing grandeur of God Gave Rock’N’Roll To You. Stanley delivers the words ‘Stand by my side, I’ll be next to you/Stand by my side, we’ll make it through/Stand by my side, we’ll get by, you and I’ with consummate Starchild passion. This one just grows and grows… and then offers a neat false ending with some soft, CSN&Y-style harmonies (yes, really) before picking up the pace once more.
I’m An Animal Full of giant, stalking menace, this is based around a dense, Zeppelinesque riff. Thayer plays a marvellous slick-but-stumbling Frehley solo, and you can rest assured the lyrics – ‘I’m an animal and I’m free… I’m an animal in the street’ – don’t refer to an old lady with her poodle off the leash. Late in the song, the band issue the urge: ‘Stand up, raise your fists.’ Little do they know, we’ve been doing that since track one…

I think the cover fits alongside other KISS covers like Rock And Roll Over and Unmasked and Hotter Than Hell...colorful & loud.
The song on kissonline.com sounds great, IMO.

I am looking forward to the release of this album and even happier that I do not have spring extra dough for the re-recorded classics that is going to be included.

Ditto. Kinda bummed that the live DVD that will be included is from South America 2009 tho. When they released that re-recorded thingy in Japan last year, I believe the DVD they included was a show from Japan '77.
So, when is Walmart gonna start the full-court press promoting this thing? It comes out in just over a month. Betcha when I go there in a week or two to Back To School shop for my kid, there'll be KISS crap all over the place.

I can understand it though. This new album is suppose to be the new line-up: Paul, Gene, Tommy and Eric. As such, they would want a live show that reflects that line-up.

I understand it too... but that doesn't mean I have to like it.
...aw, who am I kidding? I'll probably only ever watch the DVD once anyway, so it doesn't really matter what's on it.

I can't wait for this one!!!!! At least Gene realizes you need to pack lots of extras in these days to get people to buy the album.
For the cover, I was hoping for a better cover - it does seem a little rock and roll over like, that makes sense since it's the same artist that did rock and roll over. I just think it coul dhave been better

That will probably be one more time than I'll ever watch it. Not a bad package though, 2 cds & a dvd for $12 bucks.
The new song sounds decent enough and the cover looks cool to me. Although it's weird seeing Eric & Tommy on there in the make-up.

The pencil version of the cover - the concept looks much better than the final product, IMHO

I agree about the pencil version. That looks awesome that way, but they couldnt stay with that version it just doesnt pop out. What they should have doen though was a little switch -a- roo with KISS and SONIC BOOM. I think the bands name should have been put in middle where Sonic Boom is and the word Sonic on top and Boom on the bottom.

Maybe - I think with different colors and drawn faces of the band, it would have been killer

Sigh...the cover is alright...I understand...rock and roll over redo...and it's done by the same artist who did rock and roll over so that's cool, but still...how can this band call their album Sonic Boom? I can't make it make sense to me at all.
New Stryper album, Murder By Pride...great album with a sucky title, now KISS doing the same thing...Sonic Boom will be great, but...seriously, fellas...how can you possibly call your album this?
Subject: Re: Message from KISS Mon Aug 17, 2009 11:16 pm
I like the cover. Has a cool cartoony feel to it, which makes sense as KISS have always been kind of a cartoon band.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the new cover... It has some kind of cheese flavor, but the clip of the new song is very cool, albeit crappy.
While I'm still a little skeptical about it being released at Wally World, I'll probably end up buying the album from there, as it is very close to my home and it's also where I buy charge cards for my cell phone.
