Please be so kind as to name all the bands that have covered a Deep Purple song that you can think of. I am curious.

The ones I thought of right off were:

Dream Theater - Perfect Strangers
Pretty Maids - Perfect Strangers
Metal Church - Highway Star
Venom - Speed King

Primal Fear covered "Speed King" on their first album.

Overkill covered "Space Truckin'" on the COVERKILL album.

I'm sure there are others but those are all I can think of right now...

It is on their greatest hit album "What Hits?" but it wasn't a serious cover version since it is only a minute long.

Kevin DuBrow covered Speed King on his In For the Kill solo album. He also covered Black Sheep of the Family by Richie Blackmore's Rainbow, for what it's worth.

Kula Shaker covered Hush.

When I had a Limewire account I had a live version of Iron Maiden covering "Smoke on the Water." I guess it was a live only bootleg cuz the quality was terrible. But a cool novelty listen nonetheless. Peace.

Thin Lizzy covered a ton of Deep Purple songs. They recorded an album under the name Funky Junction. The album was titled Funky Juction - A Tribute to Deep Purple. This was actually Thin Lizzy with some additional musicians. It is the holy grail of Thin Lizzy collectible vinyl.

There are tribute cd's out there & not all them are bands but different singers & or guitar players for for certain songs based around a core backing band. I have one called "Smoke On The Water" that is very good IMO. Features Glenn Hughes, JLT, Dokken, T.Harnell, JSS on voc. & P.Glibert,. Malmsteen, Norum, McAlpine, V. Moore etc on guitar.

My favorite cover of Purple is on Blackmore's Castle "Space Truckin" w/Torben Enevoldson (Section A) on guitar & the great Mats Leven on vocals. Check it out at www.nehrecord.com
