Lately I've been listening to a lot of 80's New Wave bands like Big Country(my fave. of this genre), Elvis Costello, Tears For Fears, A Flock of Seagulls, The Buggles...etc. Just wondering if anyone else is a fan of this genre and if so who do you like?

Sorry, that's the only music from the 80s that I can't get into. There are maybe a handful of songs but for the most part, I can't stand that music. I do enjoy Wierd Al's parodies of those songs .

I love alot of those bands, Big Country was a great band, Tears for Fears, A Flock of Seagulls terrible as an album band but managed to release a couple cool singles, I just think there where a lot of cool songs written with some great pop hooks in the New Wave genre.

I have a soft spot for the new wave stuff, probably cuz I spent my formative years (the early 80s) watching MTV about sixteen hours a day. I don't own any albums (though I've been tempted to pick up one of the many "80s" compilations out there many a time) but if someone puts on the local "80s" radio station I'm sometimes surprised at how many of the songs I remember. (Then I get the "You know this stuff? I thought you were a metal dude," haha)
Anyway, howzabout Devo, the Human League, Thomas Dolby, or Kim Wilde, just to name a few?

I don't like most of the 80s new wave bands but Big Country is one I really dig. I also used to like this obscure Aussie band called MiSex but I'd probably hate it now; very synth-oriented.

Berlin and Duran Duran are my favs of the genre. Along with Freddy, I have an extra special place in my heart for most of the songs because they are the soundtrack of my formative years.

I love Duran Duran's Ordinary World but when I tried to listen to some of the album it came from, I just couldn't get into it. Some of their other singles weren't bad either so maybe I should just get a greatest hits album.

One of their funkier songs. They sound like their roots; XTC meets Gang Of Four

Yes, I am actually a big fan of late 70's and early 80's new wave. I have quite a bit of in in my CD collection. I think my love affair with it probably began with MTV too, but I got into some of the more obscure bands in the movement too. I used to be a huge Police fan before I got into metal in high school. Synchronicity is still one of my favorite albums. I also love Devo, Elvis Costello, the B-52's and the Talking Heads. It was sort of interesting when some new bands started to bring back that sound recently (like the Futureheads, Bravery, Keiser Cheifs, Killers).

I Love so many of those '80s bands. Duran Duran, Devo, Depeche Mode, Human League, Cocteau Twins, The Church, The Alarm, The (English) Beat, The Jam, and I could go on forever.

I used to dismiss this stuff as a young metal fan, but this music served as soundtrack to my youth and like Freddy when I hear these songs on the radio or one of my many comp CD's of 80's music I am surprised how many of them I knew, and how many of those songs I actually like.

I liked The Alarm, The Call, and Big Country. I think all those bands had much in common with old U2.
