| Not something I see mentioned here much.Any fans here?I've been listening to some Pagan Reign lately and really dig the folk elements they incorporate.Any other suggestions on bands that mix the style well? | |

| Elvenking, Korpiklaani and Falkenbach are three that spring to mind. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Elvenking, Korpiklaani, Turisas, Ensiferum, Spellblast (Very good unknown Folk Metal band), Battlelore, Holy Blood. One of my favorite sub-genres. | |

| Yeah, that Spellblast is pretty good.
Turisas are good too but a little too much growling for me. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I have dabbled in folk metal for a long(ish) period of time. Of course Skyclad are the gods and masters of the genre but that is in huge part due to the lyrics and vocals of Martin - his delivery and his lyrics verge on poetry sometimes and are full of wit and passion.
Some other fine bands would be: Folkearth Korpiklaani Mago De Oz Skiltron Cruachan Waylander Spellblast Eluveite Suidakra (not really full-bore folk metal but there are folk-ish parts and riffs) Falkenbach (also more in the viking metal camp but generally an excellent band) Skyforger (cream of the crop of pagan/folk metal bands - check out their "Thunderforge" album)

Skyclad has a new album coming out this spring. From Blabbermouth and Skyclad MySpace: - Quote :
- SKYCLAD, the seminal British band, which is often referred to as "the originator of folk metal", has signed a deal with Scarlet Records. The group's twelfth album, "In The… All Together", is due in the spring. The CD, which was recorded and mixed by Dario Mollo (THE CAGE, VOODOO HILL) at Damage Inc Studio, in Ventimiglia, Italy during August 2008, "mixes the usual thrash/speed metal influences with the extraordinary folk melodies that made the band famous all around the world, maintaining a fresh and dynamic approach which gives a strong live dimension to the new songs," according to a press release.....
I loved A Semblance of Normality. This one I will purchase on faith alone it was that good. I also like some of the Finnish pagan metal bands, especially Turisas. The albums are so-and-so (I have both), but they are an absolutely awesome live band. I've seen Korpiklaani and Ensiferum live, too. Again, somehow the atmosphere in the songs doesn't really translate well to studio recordings.

| I'm less interested in Skyclad sans Martin Walkyier. A Semblance of Normality was good and my original introduction to the band, but I didn't become obsessed with them until I discovered the Martin stuff. Still, I'll pick up the new one, I'm sure. _________________ | |

| Agalloch is THE best Folk-Metal outfit out there. Hands down. And, bar none. 'The Mantle' and 'Ashes Against The Grain' are beyond brilliant. |

'The Mantle' and 'Ashes Against The Grain' are beyond brilliant. Yup, both are depressingly good, but I think they have too much doom influences to be strictly folk-metal. I also like Falkenbach and Eluveitie.
