I have always thought its quality over quantity (i.e. - if you have what you like then it doesnt matter if someone has more.) I have a smaller collection of 1200 cds but I really do like almost all. I will admit I bought a few just because but I enjoy them.

For me, metal/hard rock is separated from country/southern gospel and just rock. Compilations make up a separate category as well.

Within those genre categories, I don't alphabetize; rather, I go from my perception of lightest to heaviest, with Queen/Angelica/Stryper at the bottom and Horde/Malevolent Creation/Absu at the top.

Does no one else do it like this, or do I need to get with the program and alphabetize?

I am doing kinda the same thing. I keep Christian metal separated from the rest and then I split up hard rock/AOR, power metal, pagan/death metal, psychedelic, prog, rock and space/kraut rock. I am coming to the conclusion though it is becoming unmanagable and might go to the alphabet system...

the only thing I seperate is soundtracks and comp, which I keep on seperate shelf. The only time I break that rule is with tribute albums which I own very few off, which I shelve next to the artist.

Soundtracks, comps and tribute albums come after "Z" in my vault.

I place tribute albums at the end of the section of the band being tributed, i.e. the Sabbath tribute albums are after the Sabbath discs, the Priest tribute albums are at the end of the Priest discs, etc.

Soundtracks go alphabetically by the title of the movie.

I don't really bother with compilations so that hasn't come up yet. Laughing

Andi Preisung from Battle Cry Records is known as the guy with biggest metal collection among the underground metal collectors, don't know the exact numbers but from what I've heard it's over 20.000 CDs, 10.000 vinyls and counting ...

I celebrate Ground Hog Day. I take off work and do what I want, which always includes watching the movie.

I occurred to me that the perfect Ground Hog Day activity would be to alphabetize my CD collection. I've always wanted to, just never got around to it.

SO, I sorted them all by letter and wrote down the band, title and release date in a notebook. 414 cds total, so far. This will make keeping track much easier.

I love the movie as well. I live about 40 minutes away from Woodstock, Illinois, where they shot the movie. This summer I went by the square where the majority of the outside shots were filmed. It's still very recognizable, but man have the trees grown where Puxatawney Phil was brought out. I happen to stop at a Starbuck's which is one of the stores that is on the outer rim of the downtown square. I go by that town all of the time, so maybe I will take some pics and post them on this thread. The bowling alley is still there, but I'm not sure if it's actually open anymore?

My Dad and I were going to eat a groundhog I shot once, but when we were cleaning it, it had worms. We thought better of it then. Still never have tried it.
