Still have yet to pick up Saudades, but from the songs on their website ('Star' included), it sounds good. Gary's voice has changed a bit but I wouldn't go as far as to say he lost his ability to sing.
Anyway, finally picked up Waiting for the Punchline the other day. Judging from most the reviews I've read of this, I expected it to be a bit of a stinker but I'm actually really enjoying it. III Sides seemed to get quite solemn towards the end and it seems that by the time they started writing Punchline, Extreme's somewhat introspective mood had changed to quite pissed off. It's very different to the previous three albums, possibly because aggression is not really something you'd associate with Extreme. Things have slowed down, a lot of the extra layering has been stripped out and you're left with quite a ballsy rock album. Songs like 'There Is No God', 'Hip Today' and 'No Respect' are great rockers, whereas songs like 'Leave Me Alone' and 'Shadow Boxing' remind me of the mellow parts of III Sides. Definitely worth a spin to anyone interested.

I actually like "Waiting for the Punchline" a good solid disc and Smindas great points regarding the lyrical content, it has been awhile since I have spun that disc.

Punchline is my favorite EXTREME album...

I picked up Punchline again recently, and I really dig it. I didn't like it at all when it came out and promptly made it disappear. Not sure why, really, as it doesn't sound like such a drastic style change as I remembered.
The album is definitely disliked. I got the Japanese import with bonus track for $3.99 on eBay. Yet their other albums sell for like $10. Haha. Fine by me, of course.
But yeah, definitely a really good album. And the new one is excellent. I don't think Gary's voice is worse, just a bit more refined, I think.

My guitar teacher's friend met Nuno Bettencourt last year. He said he was a really nice guy.

I also won an eBay auction for six of their singles in the interest of getting some of the B-sides (it also came with a III Sides designed limited edition box to put four singles in - thank you eBay). This horn version of 'Hole-Hearted' is quite odd, to say the least. As is the acapella / conga version of 'More Than Words'. Basically, since discovering Extreme, I think I may have become a bit obsessed.

They are great band who just had alot of layers to their sound and were not afaird to try different styles within the same album and even song, their discography maybe small but still alot of music to digest. Another band I feel was unfairly labeled pop/hair metal when in reality I think these guys were shooting to be Queen for generation X.

Can I get a resurrection?
So I guess now that bands are doing things more DIY style we're getting all the DIY artwork again.
It's almost cool, in a way, because it's sort of nostalgic. But it's also kind of laughable. I mean, let's be honest here; that cover is horrible. Haha.
And seriously, are these guys not one of the best-sounding live bands ever? They always sound spectacular.

I picked up III Sides... last year for 99c. Money well spent -it's a great album, with lots of ideas. Shoulda been huge! I agree on the Queen meets VH, comment, too.

I remember liking some songs but overall i couldn't get into this band. Nuno was the main selling point for me... good guitarist.

I'm no Extreme fan, so it's easy for me to be critical of them. And I will be. This cover is horrible...
In 2010, with Photoshop readily available to any 8th grader, this kinda stuff is inexcusable. Even if you don't have a big budget for artwork, go the free "design a cover for Extreme" fan contest route. Take the best submission, secure the rights with a signed t-shirt and some backstage passes for the artist and you'll get something better than this.
Lame.
