Interesting King Diamond interview

Emperor's Ihsahn interviewed King Diamond for Revolver magazine back in 2002. I never read it, but found it online, and thought maybe other people here would find it nteresting.

I do agree with the statement "It was the thing to do in '83"
but I really don't think he really compares to Alice Cooper in how they decided to present their Horror shows.

Alice has always been more of comedy of blood and guts where King Diamond has been way darker and on a much more serious level.

I read that interview and thought it was boring as hell. Basically everything that they were talking about ive read a million times before with Kings other interviews. He does do good interview though because he gets into great detail about his work and you can tell hes really into what he does which is what I always liked about him. After I first saw him do a interview on Headbangers Ball so many years ago I always thought he was a very interesting person.

Now about how I feel about him saying he was never a satanist....I really dont know. I guess he fooled me, especially when I was younger because I always thought he was until the internet came around and I got to learn a little more about him and eventually found out its just something he does for entertainment or shock value.

It hasnt really changed my feelings about him because he is such a great performer although I cant help but laugh when I see this picture. I cant wait for the first ever King Diamond Christmas Album.

I always read that he was a member of the Satanic church, and that he followed the teachings on LaVey. I've also read that he used the Stanic Bible to create the King Diamond logo.

Yea so have I but he was just more into the philosophy of the satanic bible since thats how he was living his life anyway.

If you cut out the dogma, the "Satanic Bible" is nothing but a philosophy book.

You should also keep in mind that Satanic Bible was written by Anton LeVay an ex carny and first class huckster.

That being said I never took King Diamond being a satanist very seriously, as I stated in other threads I feel his CD's are audio horror novels. Interesting interview.

I don't think the issue with King Diamond being a satanist or not is really black and white. Prove me if I am wrong but I think in the past he has experimented with satanism but not officially being one but these days he has nothing do with satanism which probably explains why he cant really say a yes or a no when asked about it in an interview

The satanic stuff seems to really pidgon-hole a band to me. It is all good and fine for a while but there is only so much material a band can do on this subject before it starts running into the ground. I think the fact that he has broken away from some of it it has opened some doors for him creatively. I like his last 2 albums better than anything I had heard in a long time. I do think that once you get labeled it is very hard to get away from it. I know that I am guilty of this at times.

I guess a person should go at a new album based off its own merit and not judge an artist by his past success or past mistakes.

Did any of you guys see the news bit on Blabbermouth a week or two ago where King rambled on at great length about how much he's in love with his new wife? She's half his age and looks pretty hot. (Beavis voice: "Heh! Heh! King Diamond is WHIPPED!") Maybe when he hooked up with her he decided he didn't need Satan anymore.

I really don't believe there are any real Satanists out there (with the possibility of Glen Benton, but I even doubt that). King Diamond claims to be an athiest and even the Church Of Satan has admitted this (there was a Discovery Channel special about this several years ago-a Satanic priest stated that they don't believe in God and therefore don't believe in an actual Satan). They believe that men are animals and shouldn't resist their natural instincts. Christianity teaches one to resist temptation and they resent that so they adopt the occultic imagry as a protest and to ruffle our feathers and sadly, we [Christians] take the bait. This underlying athiest belief has caused Glen Benton to reject the Church Of Satan but I suspect this is to keep up his Satanic image.

The other so called Satanists in the black metal community are actually pagans and use the anti-Christian imagry as a protest as well. The church burnings and other stuff is done to intimidate Christians. Each group dislikes/hates Christianity but neither are real Satanists. It's all a gimic and/or image. Maybe there are real Satan worshipers but I doubt it. Who in their right mind would worship a certain character knowing eternal punishment would be their reward?

And Christians have never intimidated anyone? Might want to read up on the Crusades when you get a chance....
