I have never heard the band Therion from Sweden. I am wondering if it is worth picking anything up by them.

Yea they are a decent band, their early stuff was more Death Metal, the later years is a little more of a classical style of Metal (I don't mean Classic Heavy Metal), but it's all good. I wouldn't be the biggest Death Metal fan but I even enjoy the first trilogy of releases.
Have you heard any sample songs by them ?
If I was to recomend an album by them I'd say pick either
Secret of the Runes (2001) or Sirius B (2004)
or if you realy want to push the boat out, you could venture after one of the early albums, I recomend
Beyond Sanctorum (1992)

Are you serious?
Dude, once they ditched their death metal style, they totally excelled at the symphonic metal genre!
You definitely should check out Lemuria/Sirius B (double CD). If you like that, check out Vovin, Deggial and Secret Of The Runes.
This used to be my favorite band until they release the Gothic Kaballah last year which took a left turn into 70s prog territory.

One of my favorite bands EVER!! Favorite cd is Vovin, with Crowning of Atlantis a close second. Theli, Deggial, Lemuria/Sirius B all are excellent cds. I was never a big fan of there early material but once they went to a Symphonic Opera metal i loved these guys.
one of my fav Therion songs..

Personally for me when they dropped the death metal style and went symphonic they were simply amazing. I referred to them as Viking Metal, but after Lemuria/Sirius B, I completely disowned them. Lemuria was when I noticed a difference for them but the album was good enough. Gothic was so bad I decided to never follow these guys again, they became to power metal for me then.

Yeah, as I said, this used to be my favorite band but Gothic Kabbalah sucked so bad I disowned them too

Nah, I'll let Eyesore be Eyesore. I personally remembered the earlier Therion thread, that's why I mentioned it. There is nothing wrong with sharing information for people who want it.

Just checking.
There really is only one Eyesore (thank God).

Love this band, even the oft slammed Gothic Kabbalah. I have a special Japan release of Secret Of The Ruins for their awesome cover of ABBA-Summernight City:

Their death metal stuff was their best stuff. Couldn't really get into much when they dropped the death metal aspect. Vovin and Deggial were ok but only in limited listening sessions.

I only have the Gothic Kabbalah. I like it, been wanting to pick up Lemuria and Sirius B too. I've also seen the band live and know some of their older material, but never really liked the rougher style. But yeah, Lemuria/Sirius B is (are? They still sell the 2-for-1 package?) on my list of albums to get.

Once you get Lemuria/Sirius B, I think you'll see what a dropoff Gothic Kabbalah is. At least to most fans of the band's symphonic metal sound.
I'd also recommend picking up Vovin and Deggial.

You can't please everybody all of the time. Gothic Kabbalah was an experimental album for Therion and everytime you experiment with your sound there will always be people that will hate it. I love Lemuria/Sirius B infinitly more than GK, but I don't believe it was as bad as some Therion fans claim it to be.
