| It is being reported that Mitch Mitchell was found dead in his hotel room of natural causes. Mitchell is one of my favorite rock drummers, his work with The Jimi Hendrix Experience is amazing, his ability to merge rock, jazz & funk style drum beats together into a cohesive whole was brilliant. |

| That blows. But on the other hand, Jimi now has a proper drummer for his Heavenly Ensemble. |

| I huge jimi Hendrix fan, and his drumming was incredible especially on " I Don't live Today" and various live albums, the perfect drummer for Jimi Hendrix. After the originial trio broke up (which also included the late Noel Redding) Hendrix formed a Band of Gypsys with Billy Cox on bass and Buddy Miles on drums, after a few gigs and hand ful of recordings with Miles, Hendrix brought Mitch Mitchell back in the fold. The original Jimi Hendrix Experience are all gone now, but I bet they are having a great jam session in heaven right now, rest in peace Mitch Mitchell and thank you for the music. | |

| I always felt Mitch and Noel Redding were unfairly labeled as sidekicks and tag-a-longs. The Experience were the best version of the band. I really enjoy Noel Redding's Clonakilty Cowboys stuff, although it's admittedly spotty. It's got a lot of highlights though. | |

| Machine Gun - Hendrix with Mitch
I love hearing Mitch play the Band Of Gypsy's material, listen to the fills he's playing somewhere around the 3:20 mark...phenomenal. His double-bass work was impressive. This is also a good example of how he plays more like a jazz drummer. Listen to the groove he's playing behind the verses, he's keeping time on the ride cymbal which is the standard method in jazz. That allows him to use the bass drums for fills instead of keeping the beat.
In the afterlife, the Jimi Hendrix Experience is reunited...now that is a cosmos that really rocks. |
