Is it a Lou Reed album with Metallica as his backing band (like how those couple of Robert Palmer albums were rumored to have The Scorpions as his band)? Or will it be billed as a "Lou Reed w/ Metallica" album?

I am not 100% sure but I think it will be labeled Lou Reed and Metallica, or something close to that

That is my understanding - Lou Reed and Metallica. Lou wrote the tracks, Metallica arranged them (or more realistically James and Lars arranged them and Kirk/Robert played what they were told to play). I haven;t listened to much Lou Reed, but I am looking forward to this - sounds AWESOME

Sure. It's a possibility.

This band hasn't made a good album in decades though, so I think I'll let their track record speak louder than the hype surrounding their brand/marketing/label status/etc.

I think this album is mostly going to appeal to fans of Lou Reed, and if you are not Lou Reed I suspect this collaboration is not going to change your mind

Agreed. I'm still excited about it, there are many Lou Reed fans on the jazz board I post on and even that fanbase is interested to hear what this is going to sound like.

I'm gonna have to hear some samples of this before buying it. If they are essentially just a backing band, then I'll be passing on it.

I was never a Lou Reed fan, so this album has no appeal to me. Also, they can do this but "side projects" are forbidden...

Weird band politics.

And they frowned up Jason Newsted for wanting to branch out musically. Was never a Lou Reed fan, totally outside of my musical and lyrical tastes.

That's what I'm sayin'... It wasn't ok until James and Lars wanted to do it.

I guess I won't like this, since I am not Lou Reed.

Not much of a Lou Reed fan, but liked some songs.
If Metallica tried sounding like the Velvet Underground , then I would be interested.

Let them do what they want......Lars must be painting or something ? Has to be some money making angle someplace to attempt to "appeal" to the artsy/fartsy crowd.

The 70's live Lou Reed album is the only thing remotely rock he ever participated in and that is due more to the tandem guest guitar players then him.

Bob Ezrin used Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner on both Lou Reed and Peter Gabriel's albums, Alice liked them so much, he hired the entire band away from Lou Reed.
