I know I do. Finally somebody backs me up. Sheez, were that many of you guys fetuses or still in diapers when it happened? F**k it, I'm old. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

I had just started to get into Metallica within that years time. I had a buddy who bought the "Ride The Lightning" album just prior to "Master" coming out. It was probably the day after Cliff's death that I found out, since news tended to travel a little slower in those days...but I remember Aaron Vaziri came up to a few people on the tennis team, and told us that Cliff Burton had died. Being a newbie to Metallica's music, I didn't/couldn't fully comprehend what Cliff meant to the band. It was probably over the next couple of years that I realized what he really meant to the mighty Metallica. Funny enough there were a lot of metalheads on our tennis team (in what is considered an elitist sport). I owe much of my musical metal taste to members on that team. Here we had the #2 player in the state, a top 10 state ranking, and we were rocking in the back of the bus prior to our matches to the likes of Zeppelin, Ratt, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Ozzy etc.... *Great times* R.I.P. Cliff...you're definitely missed | |

| I heard the news about Cliff Burton in the middle of the night. My brother and I shared a room and we both used to listen to an all-night metal radio show (midnight to 5 AM on Saturdays) called "Midnite Metal" (anyone remember that one? It was on WRTN-FM out of New Rochelle, NY if I remember correctly.) I rarely made it past the first hour or so of the show without falling asleep so my bro would then listen to it with his headphones on for a while before he went to sleep. I have no idea what time it was but suddenly my bro was shaking me awake and saying "Dude, I just heard on the radio, Cliff Burton from Metallica died last night." Of course I was half asleep so at first I kinda shoved him away like "Mmm-hmm, right, Cliff Burton, yeah..." then what he said finally hit me and I was suddenly wide awake, like "WHAAAAT?" He and I listened to the rest of that show right straight thru to 5 AM that night, I remember hearing Johnny Z from MegaForce Records and members of Anthrax and some other bands calling in to talk to the DJ about it. Pretty sad stuff.
We then spent the next day (Sunday) in a sleep deprived fog listening to "Orion" and "Anesthesia" over and over again, and when we went back to school on Monday (in our Metallica shirts, of course) we were evidently the only ones in our "gang" who had listened to that particular radio show, thus we were the first ones to hear about it. So we spent the rest of that day passing the sad news on to all of our metal friends. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

| I was only 7 years old at the time, and didn't discover metal until I was 11-12 so I couldn't say. | |

| I was 19 at the time and had just seen them a month or so before. I was a huge fan at the time. I remember Kill 'em All when it was released and I had read a bit about them in some obscure metal magazine. I looked at the cover art and then flipped it over and saw their picture on the back and thought "this is going to be different". Bought it and took it home and played it for the next 3 weeks. I could hardly wait till the next album and loved it as well. When Master of Puppets came out they were on a roll and I thought these guys are going to take the world over. I drove 400 miles to see them play when they opened for Ozzy. Metallica stole the show, Oz couldn't even come close to them that day. I still have my tour shirt, it doesn't fit very well anymore but my son wears it all the time. RIP Cliff, you are not forgotten | |
