Many of y'all could do a better job with this era, but as I was working up a much more comprehensive list for 1970-85,(see the Rock section) I decided to post this one as well just to :eyesore:It's based on what I listen to and little else. Winners get a little bit of cheese.

Club Ninja? That album is horrible except for Dancin' In The Ruins.
There has to be something better from 86. Off to find it.

The melodic tag is pretty icky-sticky to me, but......................here's some I may nominate..
Royal Hunt - Paradox (1997) Labyrinth - Return to Heaven Denied (1998) Praying Mantis - Nowhere to Hide (2000) PC69 - Thunderdome (2004) Vanishing Point - Embrace the Silence (2005) Keldian - Heaven's Gate (2006)
I know the one people will say yes to, but they are all good, really, they are. Do not fear teh unknown.

Good call on Royal Hunt and PC69.
But you still can't sell me on Vanishing Point. That one I have that starts with 5 minutes of silence called "Surreal" permanently put them in my doghouse.

See, you just did it.
'Surreal' is actually the second track of that album btw. The record company put the interactive/media part as the first track for some odd reason.
This is something from 'ETS':

Some may not be in the melodic catagory but they are full of melody:
1990-Queensryche-Emire 1991-Europe-Prisoners In Paradise 1992-Bon Jovi-Keep The Faith 1993-Vince Neil-Exposed 1994-Michael Sweet-s/t 1995-Sure Conviction-Get Ready 1996-Bruce Dickinson-Skunkworks 1997-Night Ranger-Neverland 1998-Night Ranger-Seven (not a favorite but that was a slow year for the melodic genre) 2000-slow year for melodic rock/metal so I will pick the most melodic alubm I know from that era (which happens to be my favortie of that year-or off all time for that matter, TSO-Beethoven's Last Night 2001-Kamelot-Karma (more power but it was also a slow year as are the next couple) 2002-Edenbridge-Arcana 2003-Circle II Circle-Watching In Silence 2004-Axel Rudi Pell-Kings & Queens 2005-Allen/Lande-The Battle 2006-slow again-Dragonforce-Inhuman Rampage (not my favorite of that year but certainly the most melodic IMO) 2007-Allen/Lande-The Revenge
2008 so far is a strong tie between Khymera-The Greatest Wonder (rock) and Avantasia-Scarecrow (metal)

I might actually say 'Paradox II: Collision Course' for 2008 if I were pressed, it's just sickly melodic.
I still say the Keldian debut is the one for 2006.
Couple songs from it..
Sundancer
Crusader
What do you think? I wish they had 'Requiem for the Light' on there...that is a pinnacle point of the album..but so are those, so..
The DF is extremely melodic at times, but I feel there is a bit too much rehashing of a lot of the same melodic ideas, as well as not enough variation in the rhythm guitar, which bumps it down a bit.
The melodic tag is pretty icky-sticky to me, but......................here's some I may nominate..
Royal Hunt - Paradox (1997) Labyrinth - Return to Heaven Denied (1998) Praying Mantis - Nowhere to Hide (2000) PC69 - Thunderdome (2004) Vanishing Point - Embrace the Silence (2005) Keldian - Heaven's Gate (2006)

great choices for p.mantis/royal hunt, but i believe forever in time is their ultimate opus and also i'll put far away/live 96 with paradox(saw them live in japan that time....great experience....d.c.cooper outstanding performance and the great trade offs between andersen/kjaer....and of course the mighty japanese fans went crazy....they came at least 4 times for encore and played wasted time twice if memory serves well)
Great list DB! Thanks. I guess it helps that I don't really consider melodic a genre (that's why I didn't say "melodic metal". There's plenty of great melodic death too, so anything goes here I guess. The real teachers pets on my list here were the Kingdom Come and the Uriah Heep. Both had a different kind of Yes/Magnum feel to them.
