Sitting here at a cpu and this thought hit me. Example: I am absoultely head over heels enamored with the British rock band Magnum. They blend melodic rock, AOR, and a slight prog twist to their music. I got into them because of singer Bob Catley's involvement with Tobias Sammet on the Avantasia projects. I then saw Vigilante at a cd store but didn't buy it cos the cover is really merry what with a unicorn, pink smurf poo everywhere, and a shooting star. So a year goes by and I keep hearing about how godly this band with a merry album cover is. I break down and watch Just Like An Arrow in YouTube. I'm hooked. I then spent four months tracking down any and all Magnum cds. I'm almost done.

And if it wasnt for Tobias getting Bob into his shindig, I might not have discovered this amazing band. Has anything like this happened to you guys? An old school band finally turns your head because of something like a collaboration or a band covering them?

The Probot album got me into a few bands that somehow slid under the radar like Celtic Frost & anything Wino related.

I got into Magnum the same way you did. When I heard Bob Catley sing the Avantasia song The Story Aint Over I was like I have to find that guys albums. I bought up all the Magnum stuff rather quickly and got all the remastered ones which are awesome they come with 2 cds. So you should be on the look out for those. I got mine mostly on amazon for a decent price $15-$20. The only ones that I had trouble getting was goodnight LA, and Sleepwalking which both went for like $60-$70 on ebay and amazon. I finally got them for decent prices. Also theres another band you might want to check out called Hard Rain. When Magnum broke up for a short while they started another band and made one album I think. Bob Catley is on that as well. I dont own it but I heard samples of the songs. Not bad.

The MAgnum cds I have now are Kingdom Of Madness, II, Marauder (expanded), On A Storytellers Night, Vigilante, Wings Of Heaven, Goodnight LA, Sleepwalking, and Princess Alice And The Broken Arrow.

Unfortunately I did not get the 2 cds of Storyteller or Kingdom so, well they're back on the to get list!

And you were right. Goodnight LA and Sleepwalking just came in this past week. Both were around 30 friggin bucks through ebay and had to come form people in Europe. I know that might seem insane to pay, but I don;'t download and I had to put my foot down when I saw them pop up on ebay. Smurf yeah! Magnum! But man, how did I go so long without this band? On A Storytellers Night and Wings Of Heaven are so good , I feel privilidged that I have heard them. I know that might sound corny but I really do feel these albums are classic in every sense of the word.

Oh yeah, and I am on the lookout for Hard Rain. It also has Tony Clarkin on it too so it basically IS another Magnum cd. Tony and Bob are the perfect team man. A great guitarist who is a phenomenally creative writer and a singer who has a voice of gold.

I saw you posted on the DragonForce thread a question about Magnum os I'll answer it here so we dont hijack the thread. Something tells me you
ll read this anyway.

Um well the rest of the Magnum cds ranged from 5 bucks for Kingdom Of Madness to a new price for Princess Alice. I found Wings of Heaven and II used for 8 bucks each. Storyteller was 10.99 BUT its some "record replica" reiusse on Sanctuary. No booklet, the covers alrtered and yeah. I really will grab the 2cd version in a heartbeat if I see it.

Oh yeah, and Marauder was the cheapest. I won it for 8 CENTS on ebay and paid 2.50 shipping still sealed. That was pretty sweet considering the smurf poo I had to go through for the rest.

Yea I paid around the same for LA and Sleepwalking. Had to get them from europe too. Actually I think I got mine from like amazon.co.uk or something. I hated paying that much but when I saw them get to the prices they were going for that was a steal. haha. All of their albums are pretty good. Theres some stuff thats like eeehhh but for the most part theyr awesome.

Awesome sounds like you got some good deals. I had that same Storyteller I recently sold it on ebay cause I bought the 2 cd version. Funny thing about that Storyteller cd is Bob Catley isnt mentioned anywhere atleast in the band lineup from what I can remember. I wasnt sure if it was the same band til I looked it up. That was definetly a crappy remaster.
