| This morning after reading an article on Bon Jovi, it stated that the band was the most successful hair metal bands of that era and the only one who was able to rise above its genre and recreate itself, which I tend to argee with. When I was younger I dismissed Bon Jovi as wimpy act who were unworthy of even being called hair metal, at time I was really into Venom, Slayer, etc, so Bon Jovi was too light weight, now many moons later on whim bought a few albums from their discography an actually enjoy it, not the greatest band in the world but a good entertaining band, any thoughts out there? | |

| One of my favorite bands of all time. When I started getting into the 80s metal scene (oops, I'm probably making Jon mad by saying that), Bon Jovi was one of the first bands I went to.
While I think it's great they've continued to have a successful career, the new music they make now does not appeal to me at all.
Even up to Bounce, they were good. But I just can't handle this rock/pop/country stuff tailored for the soccer moms that had their posters on the wall in the 80s.

| I hate Bon Jovi; at least all the "classic" stuff. But I gotta admit that I like Lost Highway (probably because all the hardcore Bon Jovi fans hate it). _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I'm from New Jersey so of course they're hometown heroes around here. I personally never dug'em much. During my big all-thrash,all-the-time phase in the late 80s I referred to them as THE ENEMY!! Nowadays I can take or leave'em. My wife has a bunch of their CDs and what I hear off of them doesn't suck but it ain't really my thang either. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

I'm the same way, although I do like Slippery When Wet quite a bit. Back in the day though, we would purposely look through peoples collections for their albums and play frisbee with them, sort of, I mean, who the hell would actually want to catch a flying 12"?

| I hated them growing up. But that was because my mother and sister LOVED the dude and played their music 24/7! One night in Korea, we were at a bar called Cowboys (nothing merry or cowboyish about it, Koreans just don't know how to name things; there's a baby clothing store there called Lusty and another called Milky Boy) and the bartender put on Crossroads. Like a jerk, I sang ever song! Even the exclusive song! And I liked it.
Guess I was a closet Jovi fan after all. |

| One of my favorite bands growing up (seen 'em 3 times), but I lost interest after the Keep the Faith album. I have recently been picking up the missing pieces of my Jovi collection, and I must say, the newer stuff is not too bad. It's no longer hair metal, but straight ahead AOR. That being said, I don't see the newer discs getting as much play as the older ones. Peace. | |

| I saw them open for Ratt in 1985, that was probably the last time I ever intentionally listened to them. |

| Keep the Faith is the Bon Jovi album that pointed the way for the second half of their career allowing them to get past the hair metal label that unfairly sunk alot of other bands of a similar genre. | |

| Jon Bon Jovi is why the group is still around today. He made sure that he was always visible and "grew up" with his fans. From NJ boy with fluffy hair to soccer mom musical icon. |

I agree with you on the point that you have made about them "growing up" with their fans, but also think that they purposly also started moving slowly away from their pop metal origins beginning with " Keep the Faith", the type bands that opened for them, the publications they would do interviews with, etc

| I'd like to rip on the pretty boy, but he and the group can still sell-out 20,000 seat arenas (multiple shows too) and not rely soley on past hits. Not too many "hair bands" can claim that. Good for him. | |

| I too hate this band except for the new countrified Lost Highway. That one sounds like southern rock to me. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| Not even close to being one of my favorite bands, and I hated the way radio, MTV, and even print media tired to shove them down our throats. But now many many years later I find their music entertainting. They had songs that were radio ready and it was about the big chrous.
The fact they have managed stay successful for over 20 years is amazing.

| Technically it is really Jon Bon Jovi's solo debut, but since it features Jeff Beck's guitar solos through out the album, and it sounds no different than bands output you can count as Bon Jovi release. | |

Nowadays I can take or leave'em. what I hear off of them doesn't suck but it ain't really my thang either. I was the same way back in the late 80's, word for word. Bon Jovi was so overplayed back then, I would get nauseus when a song would come on the radio. I dont own any Bon Jovi but I dont hate it anymore either. eh, maybe someday I'll get some, maybe not. I dont really care either way.

| I actually like Bon Jovi's first two albums quite a bit. They've made what I consider to be the same type of progression as Def Leppard. They were never as hard as Def Leppard was on their first 2-3 albums, but they weren't real far behind. I would compare their "Slippery When Wet" album to Def Leppard's "Hysteria" album. I thought Bon Jovi's self titled first album and "7800 Fahrenheit" rocked pretty hard. I can't blame Bon Jovi for going the more commercial route, but in retrospect, I wish they had stayed on the same course as their first two albums. | |

| I also like Bon Jovi's first two albums best out of their discography, but if they had stayed with that sound, they would have been thrown in the scrap heap after 1990. | |
