The band just sounds like they are wanting it again. Unlike St Anger which just sounds like they wanted to get it done because it was a obligation.
I think the song has alot of different segments of Metallica's past thrown in. Although it does sound like they took two parts and stuck them together. The flow is a little askew.

That new song was quite good, easily better than anything on St. Anger. I liked that more balladish part a bit better than the heavier part.

True, but let's face it, a mono recording of James armpit-farting "God Save the Queen" accompanied by Kirk on kazoo and Lars on slide whistle would've been better than anything on St. Anger.
On a related note... geez, the comments section under the news bit for the new song on Blabbermouth is lit up like a Christmas tree. 200-something comments in less than an hour.

Since we're discussing St. Anger, it has to be posted:

I don't generally read Blabbermouth comments anymore - too many posters that wouldn;t make it 5 minutes on the board with out being deleted!!!

Glad I wasn't looking forward to it. Better than anything in the past 4 albums, but its still not good. James Hetfield still sounds like a country singer.

I don't read'em either... but I noticed the # of comments at the bottom of the article and went "wow," cuz usually an article on Blabber gets a few dozen posts at most. This one has a few hundred in a very short time! Of course, most (if not all) of them probably say "THIS SUX! METALLICA R DONE, THEIR GHEY" or whatever.

He definitely made a mistake when trying to actually sing. But it may have been a case of learn how to properly sing or become a full-time guitarist. Bad technique will kill a voice. But the way he sings songs like "Creeping Death" now the vocals just lack the balls the songs require.

Well...it's not as good as United Abominations in my opinion, however, Metallica sound MUCH BETTER now than they used to...finally.

I love the intro of this new tune. Seriously great intro. I look forward to a real studio version of it.

I heard people say that this new song sounds like Load/Reload stuff. Am I hearing something everyone else isn't hearing, because it sounds like a fresh start for the band to me.

It's got a few things going for it. The main sound, I think, is a mix of Load/Reload and the black album. There is also a bit of the pre-black album throughout. Just shades of it. But there is definitely something new here. The whole intro sounds like nothing they've done before, and there are some new colors mixed in.
Overall, however, I think the average person will hear Load/Reload and the black album.
And I don't think this is a rough mix, I think it's just a bad rip.

I heard this new track on the radio this afternoon.
It was oaky...and that's at the lowest end of okay.
James' vocals are way to clear and clean...
The drums are still pingy.
The guiatr sound is uneven...as is the song..It's like a damn quilt...like a bunch of ideas they had and threw together...
I dunno..I'm an old schooler so I probabaly have taste for smurf....

Just my opinion - Metallica could put out the greatest album ever recorded and I still couldn't give 2 craps. They are still the same Metallica who shunned me and my people. You guys are that are in that group are very forgiving. I am not. They will never earn back my respect or $.
