EARL ROOT - R.I.P.

I knew Earl thru my husband. I didn't see Earl often, was on his radio show a couple of times with my husband and once with my husband's then band Animosity. Saw him here and there thru the years but without a doubt every time I saw him he made a point to look me in the eye and shake my hand and say "Hi Annie" like he was genuinely happy to see me and I was important. You just don't meet people who make you feel like that very often. His personality was bigger than life and he was always smiling. I will miss him.

I was talkin' to my brother last night and he sez "Hey, did you hear about Earl Root?" I wasn't even aware he knew who Earl was. But he sez he met him at the first March Metal Meltdown here in NJ back in '98 or '99, whenever it was. My bro bought a few CDs from him in the vendor's room and he sez Earl commented on whatever t-shirt he was wearing (he couldn't remember what band it was), and that he was a very cool guy. Earl gave him a sticker from his "Root Of All Evil" record label that's on his beer fridge to this very day.

Not a shocking story at all, FF.

Haha, yea, that would be cool but unfortunately my little bro doesn't believe in using the Internet for anything besides e-mail and porn. Which is a shame, cuz he's got metal stories out the wazoo!!

So the memorial was Friday night. More like a family reunion I would call it! Pretty much every Twin Cities metal band was represented, along with hundreds of denim and leather oldsters [me] and youngsters. Seeing Don Decker in a suit and tie was pretty surreal! 25 years of people that have all met each other somewhere at sometime. I hate to say it, but it was actually quite an enjoyable event. I left a pair of skull tuner knobs next to his urn during my moment of reflection. Later bro.
