If your sole basis for being against merry marriage is the fact that you think being merry is a sin then we need a law forbidding fat people from getting married. Or liars. Or envious people. Or greedy people.

IMO, the government should not be involved in legislating morality. The only time it should enter that realm is in an effort to protect its citizens. Merry marriage threatens no one therefore I think the government should keep out.

This country has become too Politically Correct to the point that no one is supposed to voice their opinions about anything even if they keep it civil. I won't walk on egg shells because the times are changing or whatever. I'm not for a anything goes society.

For once, I agree with Eyesore. If you get raped by a dude, why in hell would you want more of it??? You can't turn merry, you're born into it, so discriminating against gays is practically the same thing as discriminating against Asians. And about your mental illness quip, even if homosexuality is a mental disease, are you saying 2 people with down syndrome or something can't get married just because they were born different? And yes, political correctness is mostly bull sh*t, but this isn't about that. We're voicing our opinions aren't we?

I hear what you're saying. But the other things I mentioned previously are sins too. Greed, envy, gluttony, etc; why are there no laws prohibiting people committing those sins from getting married?

As for the scientific aspect, if you Google, you can find a bunch of studies observing homosexual behavior in some animals.

I think we should applaud gays for not bringing any more dumb people into the world.

It doesn't matter if you agree with being merry or not, really. Believe what you want. But gays DESERVE the same rights that you have. For a state to give them those rights and then take them away is what you should be protesting. It's unreal.

TroubleZone - just out of curosity, what type of church do you attend (i.e denomation, "non-denomational", church that is part of a "group of churches). This isn't a trap, just curious. I don't attack isms, just trying to get some of your background.

I'm not here to tell you that you are wrong about for you thinking, but I do have some points I disagree with. At one time, killing for christianity was the norm, but christianity has evolved beyond killing in the name of (as opposed, to radical islam that hasn't). That was "tradition", as was polygamy (i.e. old testament characters that had multiple wives).

As far as my personal beliefs, I do feel that marriage is between a man and a woman, civil unions are fine and same sex partners should be able to have the same rights. The government has no business taking someone's estate after they die because they have a same sex partner. I am all for domestic partner rights. Personally, I feel marriage is between a man and a woman - you will find a majority of americans agree with that statement, but a majority also have no problems with rights for domestic partnerships. Giving same sex couples domestic partner rights keeps their rights, they would get the same benefits, but not call it marriage. There is no holding back their rights. I don't feel the government should legislate morality, but should protect our rights (life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness). There is a difference between anything goes and not legislating morality.

What??? Before that mayor of San Fransisco and his four liberal judges took it upon themselves to override the people's vote (last time the prop was voted on) THAT was what was scary. This was a real "legal" vote that we the voters in Ca voted on. I know in your neck of the woods it's all good to think the way you do but this was done the right way and the voters have spoken.

Man you got me all wrong! I stated above that i am for the prior existing merry rights laws just not the title of marriage. I agree with what you said above but i am against them having the title of marriage.

What's so sacred about the title of "marriage"?

As someone posted earlier, with a 50% divorce rate, hasn't society already pretty much made the "sanctity" of the concept obsolete?
