FF's Bad Biscut thread triggered me to remember this band from way back in my murky past.
Cast your mind back to 1992. President George Bush gets ill and vomits on the Japanese prime minister's lap. "I'm Too Sexy" by Right Said Fred peaks at #1. Jeffrey Dahmer is determined by the courts to be sane and guilty of killing 15 boys and Amy Fisher shoots Mary Jo Buttafuoco in Massapequa, NY. Nolan Ryan strikes out his 100th batter for 23rd consecutive seasons.
I'm working in a small local AM radio station, bravely playing "Going To California" and "Wish You Were Here" in the face of an AC format that is slowly but surely sucking my will to live.
Meanwhile, our news guy and resident oldies expert is a man from Portsmouth NH named Roger Palmer. While he was toiling away at a rock radio station a few years back in the New England area, he kept getting phone calls from these young guys to request "Both Sides Now" by Judy Collins.
Exactly!
Anyways, a coworker from that same small radio station in NH decides to make the trek out to sunny southern NM to visit her friend and bring him a gift. It's a cd by those goofy kids who requested Judy Collins all the time. In addition to a Power Pop/Punk cover version of "Both Sides Now", the cd had 11 other tracks suitable for getting girls to dance at your favorite house party.
I was sufficiently impressed to e-mail the record label and inquire as to how I ncould order my very own copy of this modern masterpiece. Much to my surprise, he called me up late one to ask me "How in the WORLD did you ever hear of this band?"
Once he heard the story, he gave me the mailing address to send a money order so I could finally hold it in my hands. My very own copy of the s/t cd from.......... HEAVENS TO MURGATROID!!
