| No, I'm too old now. I consider myself more of a metal historian, specializing in hard rock. I'm like a display of the bones of a metalhead's ancestors. | |

| I consider myself a neo-metalhead and neo-rocker. The terms usually refer to those who follow the lifestyle. I'm more into the music. I mean, I have long hair; I wear band shirts every day; I wear jeans every day; I love going to concerts and moshin'n'bangin'; and, like Paul Stanley use to say, I like to take a little taste of alcohol. But, it's the music I'm nuts for. |

| I guess, I got the metal looks, but thats not important, its the music and I think I can say that I am 1 of the 2 18 year old boys in my town that actually stands for unadulterated metal, none of this "whammy bar wankery" as someone cleverly stated in another thread. | |

| Labels suck. But if someone called me a metalhead, I would dig it. I'm a metalhead - I'm a punk - I'm Hardcore - I am inline with the Rastas - I'm a Jellyfish-head - I'm a Blueshead. I personally don't label myself, as that would be tunnelvisioned in my case. You can call me what you want, and I would not be offended - mainly because I don't give a crap what you think. And you should not give a crap what others think of you either! - Quote :

Were you from a smaller town? That is not a rip, it just would explain that thought process to me. In the Minneapolis scene from my earliest memory ('83?), the punks and metalheads ALWAYS stepped up to the skins. Still do to this day! |

Yep. Plus I used to get Rip magazine and many of the bands interviewed used to rag on punk saying it was three chord noise and didn't require any talent, etc. _________________ "The cat is the most ruthless, most terrifying of animals." - Spock in the "Catspaw" episode of ToS Season 2.

| I no longer have the long hair, nor do I use the band shirts every day, but in my heart and in my blood, metal is strong! Thus being labeled a metalhead is something I am proud of. Besides my family, and work, there is not a single thing on this earth I devote more time to than metal. And I can agree with the punks and metalhead being "separate". The punks grew into the new wave kids, and after a while, they embraced the synth-pop crap that was Depeche Mode, The Cure etc. We hated them. Now of course I've embraced much of that muisc myself over the years, but back then, the punks turned synthers were loosers! _________________ | |

I guess The Twin Towns were just cooler than everyone else than. The Punks and the 'Heads partied together, skated together, skitched (grabbing the back bumper of a bus in the winter and sliding all the way downtown) together, and turned each other on to some awesome music!! One incident comes to mind immediately. Waiting out in front of First Ave for the doors to open (I must have spent 2000 hours on that sidewalk). I don't remember the show, but one of the metalheads had his beatup boombox and was playing Zoetrope. Punk came along, popped out the tape, and put in the fastest stuff any of us had ever heard!!!! Turned out to be C.O.C. Animosity. Instant street pit! Then we went in the show and kicked the snot outta anyone with suspenders and cuffed jeans. Stuff like was how I grew up. But as we got older, Soul Asylum went acoustic, Metallica went to crap, and I started listening to reggae. |

| Looking back on it now, I don't remember why the metalheads & punks were so against one another. It doesn't make any sense. It was a Catholic High School, so we all had to conform to hair regulations, dress clothes, no earrings, same shoes, etc. It's not like it was long hairs vs. skin heads or denim & leather vs. plaid & safety pins. But whatever it was, we just didn't get along. | |

| My high school era was a strange time for Punk, I guess, because I really don't remember any punks. We had goths and metalheads, though. The goths were the only real outsiders. They played up the whole vampyre thing and were quite annoying.
Jocks ran the school, though, like most. | |

| <---- Does. I like more then just metal, but Punk (only real hardcore punk) and metal (almost all genres) are by far my two favorites. P.S. Toho etc., Most metalheads have no problem with real punks, and vice versa. It's the Dropkick Murphys, AFI's, Greendays etc. (aka Pop-punks) that you're referring to. And neither metalheads nor real punks like these jokers. I've been a metalhead/punk for over 20 years and have always been heavily involved in both scenes. I've seen everybody from Minor Threat to Metallica to D.R.I. to Kreator etc. live, with plenty of punks and metalheads at each show. The division started ending in 1987 when crossover was invented with bands like D.R.I., Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags etc. leading the way. I was there to see it happen firsthand. It's now the emo's that are disliked the most by both. | |

| No. And it's a shame too-I wouldve been able to participate in daring sports and all kinds of violence without worrying about it too much had my head been made of metal. |

| I am a metal head for now and always. To me metal is more of a state of mind than a look. The heart of metal lies in the love of the music. As a metal head I listen to what I like and don't give a rat's patoot what others say. It doesn't mean I limit myself to metal and anyone who would take a look at my music collection could easily see that. Does metal dominate my library? Of course, but that is because metal grabs me like no other music ever has. Metal is a part of me now and can no more be separated than my heart, liver, or stomach. As to the metalheads hating punks, I for the life of me can't understand that at all. While I'm not a punk fan (though I haven't hated the punk I've heard) I understand how imortant it was to the history of metal. Iron Maiden would not have come into being without it. It was because Steve Harris wanted to bridge the gap between metal and punk that Maiden was formed. Not to mention many other metal bands influenced by punk. | |
