Metallica Garage Days Re Revisited Question Empty
PostSubject: Metallica Garage Days Re Revisited Question   Metallica Garage Days Re Revisited Question Icon_minitimeWed Apr 02, 2008 1:04 pm

Ok last week I ordered the Metallica Garage Days cd on amazon, and I know there are some bootlegs out there, I even own one, of this album and to make sure I wasnt buying another bootleg or something I was reading up about it. Now I found out that there is a 5.98 E.P. and then theres a 9.98 E.P. Now I believe they changed it to 9.98 because of the cd so does that mean that there should not be any legit cds with the 5.98 price on it? The one I ordered from amazon was suppose to be the 9.98 but instead I was sent one that says 5.98. It was put out by Mercury records. Nothing looks fake or bootlegged about it I was just wondering if anyone has the original cd and knows if the one I got is a real one or not. I remember back in high school a friend of mine got it and he had a different booklet than this one as well.

Metallica never released anything on Mercury in America, only Enigma and Megaforce. Maybe a Euro issue?

I believe you meant "Elektra," not "Enigma," Spec.

Nope, the Euro version was released via Vertigo. I have a vinyl copy of the EP on that label. I think that Vertigo is or was part of the Mercury/Polygram family of labels, though, so who knows, maybe later pressings of the EP would have the Mercury logo on 'em? The album has been out of circulation for so long, though, that I don't know if there really WERE any "later pressings."

And yea, vinyl and cassette copies of the album were titled "The $5.98 EP," while CDs were titled "The $9.98 CD."

I just found another site that listed all the different versions and I found out that the one I got is from Germany. The others were released by Elektra or in Japan on CBS/Sony. Only in Germany it was released by Mercury. I ended up writing the person I got it from so i'll see what happens. Im glad I finally have it on cd but I think Id rather have the american version.

The vinyl copy of the EP that I have was bought by me while I was in Germany. I remember the label on it being Vertigo Records but I suppose it could have a Mercury logo on there too. Now you've got me curious, I'm gonna have to pull that damn EP out tonight and check. Now that I think about it, it might have.

i bought two copies of this on cassette for $0.25 each about 10 years ago at a garage sale, and also the kill 'em all cassette with a few bonus tracks (am i evil?, blitzkrieg) which i think is also somewhat rare.

and then i gave them all away once i bought kill em' all and garage inc on cd, like an idiot, not knowing they're kind of collectable! Sad

Well, the price sticker is still on the jewelcase. Plus it's not quite an easy album to find, so I'd of course remember it. Regardless, I tend to remember where I picked every CD up at.

That's a collectible? I think I have that tape in mint condition. I'd sell that one right quick if it fetched some cash. Haha.

Im not sure if kill 'em all with the bonus songs is exactly a collectable but it might possibly be since they stopped printing it with the bonus songs.

looking on ebay, the 12 song "kill 'em all" cassette sometimes goes for around $20. not exactly the rarest gem in the world, but that would be quite a profit from the $0.25 i paid for it!!!

and in keeping with the thread topic, i guess i should mention that "helpless" is my favourite metallica song of all time. i've never heard the original and i probably don't want too! Smile

Ahhh yes, "Kill'Em All" with the "bonus songs," i.e. "Am I Evil" and "Blitzkrieg." I remember when all the johnny-come-lately posers in my high school started buying up that reissue of Kill'Em All, whilst I sat on my high horse looking down upon them and sneering "Ha, those aren't "new" songs, I've had them since 1985!"

Yea, I was one of THOSE guys back then.

I had the original Megaforce release of Kill Em All on cassette.

My brother acquired Master of Puppets and I liked it and soon afterwards I saw Kill Em All in the cassette section of Sears (anyone else remember when Sears had cassettes? ) and I shoplifted it. I was such a closet deliquent as a lad.

I had it on original MegaForce Vinyl with all the photos on the inner sleeve... back when Metallica was still true arcane US steele!! Laughing

And yes, I do remember when Sears sold cassettes. I probably boosted a few from there myself. Hey, maybe we're the reason they don't sell music anymore.
