| I started doing this earlier, then got frustrated 'cause I couldn't narrow it down to 10 and gave up. But here goes again haha. 1. Def Leppard - High N' Dry (Mirror Mirror is still the best song this band wrote) 2. Van Halen - s/t 3. Slade - Alive! Two Disc Anthology (yay for cheating ) 4. Enuff Z'Nuff - Animals With Human Intelligence 5. Judas Priest - Defenders Of The Faith 6. Kiss - Ace Frehley 7. Sweet - Sweet Fanny Adams 8. Sweet - Desolation Boulevard (UK) - Couldn't decide on which one to pick, so had to pick 'em both. Give Us A Wink could have easily made the list too. 9. Lizzy Borden - Deal With The Devil 10. David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust This, of course, could get tweaked on any given day. | |

| I'm sure a lot of people here know my top ten by heart against their wills already, so I won't go there again. But instead of getting a tad morose about it, I'll try a different approach here. These are my top ten from my desert island (with solar powered batteries?) genre; 70's guitar rock. I won't call it underground, because some of these (Status Quo, Wishbone Ash, Rory Gallagher etc.) were huge sellers in the UK in their day. But this stuff has been forgotten by the dogmatic classic rock format in the USA as far as I know, and in my mind it isn't metal, glam, or stadium rock. It's hard boogie guitar (take note James B.)
Best 70's Hard Rock obscurities.
1. EPITAPH-Stop Look & Listen 2. HUSTLER- Play Loud* (has a rep for being harder than it is, but fits here IMO) 3. RORY GALLAGHER- Top Priority 4. STATUS QUO- Quo/Blue for You (2 on 1 cheat!) 5. AGNES STRANGE- Strange Flavour 6. EPITAPH- Outside the Law 7. BAKER-GURVITZ ARMY- The Collection (or Elysian Encounter) 8. WISHBONE ASH- Just Testing 9. JOHN CIPOLLINA- Copperhead 10. HOT TUNA- Hopkorv
Others that I might have included, but didn't for various reasons (too famous, metal associations in my mind, etc. would be Trower, Godz, Ram Jam, Travers, etc.) And I'll put in a good word for GRAND FUNK- Good Singin' Good Playin (w/ Frank Zappa) and the Norwegian band TITANIC- Eagle Rock.

Some of their stuff is a little behind the times for 1976, but I love it. Other faves it's nice to see various people mention here... Kansas-Masque Slade- Live collection (4 albums on 2 disc digi-pak!) TSOL-Dance With Me (I met them on that tour, they gave me a bunch of stuff!) Manic Street Preachers- Generation Terrorists

thanks alot man, gonna have to go to the local mom and pop record shop and scope it out . Quo went under the radar here in the states and wishbone Ash are one of the greatest dual guitar bands around when they were on top of ther form. Kansas is one of the most amazing bands ever.

| rattpoison - Thanks. X is one of my fav punk bands. The Australian X is pretty good too. And Hell Comes to Your House is such an essential compilation of early LA deathrock and punk, couldn't leave without that. Red Kross (or Cross, as I believe that's how it was spelled in the early days) rules.
Shiney - our islands will have to be close together 'cuz I'm borrowing those Cure, Bauhaus, Fleetwood Mac, Alice Cooper AND Gun Club discs! |

I should have said Quo & Ash crossed with Groundhogs (Split era), that would have been more accurate. I think Agnes Strange must have been a studio band mostly, as, like the Groundhogs they were usually a 3 piece. However the recordings sometimes feature twin leads, so the guitarist must have been playing with himself in the studio.

Much respect brother Hellraiser for the ENZ pick, and particuarly that album. And that list in general, fantastic. Cool Decapitate, you know the Oz X as well. That's cool, i can't begin to describe how good that band is. Both your compilations had another fav of mine 45 Grave on it. I think this list is a little different than rattling off a top 10, that's fine if you did but i think it should best represent what you like about music in all it's different ways. So the way i did it was pick 10 things/styles/trait of music that i like and then for each picked what imo was the best album that represents that musical trait. Because lets face it listening to 10 albums of the same style for eternity would drive you nuts. Although looking at my list, that's very close to a top 10 for me, at least all those albums would figure in my fav 27 records of all time.

You're obviously confusing the word "desert" (as in the arid, hot, sandy tropical place) with "Dessert" (note the second "s"! This is the word for the sweet treats eaten after dinner). But that's OK, because you're, like, all Norwegian and stuff. We forgive you. Figures! You guys can't even spell right! In Norway we spell it desert! _________________

| yup, rattpoison, good ol' 45 Grave. Another one of my all-time fav bands. Couldn't be stranded on that island without some 45 Grave.
Was almost tempted to bring "Sleep in Safety" but with the Hell Comes to your House comp. and the Return of the Living Dead sndtrck, I figured it was a good enough fix.
some of my favorite 45 Grave songs
Violent World Black Cross Sleep in Safety (which is only available on a 12") Party Time Evil Surf Bat Dream Hits II |

Mine has different cover art. What's the deal? Great album though. Spitfire Records re-issue with a bonus track or 2. And yea, great album, great band. Yeah, it's the 2000 re-issue on Spitfire. The bonus track is 'Fingertips' a ballad (and a very good one at that). RP: Thanks! (great thread too). I definitely need to check out that Generation Terrorists album. I've heard a couple of songs off it (Slash N' Burn being one, can't remember the other), and loved what I've heard. Your description of the Beasts of Burbon album intrigues me too.

| Rattpoison, I like how you included the Cult's Electric. That's a wicked album. "Vibrations got you on the run."
(1.) AC/DC - Back in Black (the album that converted me) (2.) KISS - KISS Alive! (3.) Metallica - Ride the Lightning *the major guns --------------------------------------------------------- (4.) Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti (5.) Metallica - Master of Puppets (6.) Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin II (7.) Aerosmith - Rocks (8.) Guns'n'Roses - Appetite for Destruction (9.) Queen - Live Killers (10.) Rolling Stones - Exile on Main St.
That was far too hard to narrow down. |

At least with Ian, the F'inheimers went revelant to the songs. Not just in there to "be in there". I always thought that swearing was a sign of an uneducated, or at least lazy, mind. Mr. Baldhead was far from either. |
