| Now for the serious post:
Hard to say what the first moment was. Heavy metal/hard rock was a part of my young life since I was.... very young.....
No wait....
I mean, I was really heavy when I was young....
No, that's not it either.....
Ummm....
OK, here it is....
I had a bunch of hard rock albums, but probably the first real "heavy metal" moment was hearing the opening scream to the original ep of Stryper's Yellow and Black Attack. It was right before a youth group meeting and we were listening to a friend's cassette on the youth leader's daughter's cassette player. I think the player had Barbie or Holly Hobbie or something like that on it. I was hooked.

| 1987 Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction.
Before I heard that album, I was listening to my dad's oldies and Huey Lewis. After hearing songs like "Night Train", "Mr. Brownstone" and "It's So Easy", I was hooked and haven't looked back since.

| GnR RULED! My first exposure to metal was an old Friday night Christian Metal Radio show in Sacatomatoes. I remember hearing a solo by Archangel, Seek And Destroy - Philadelphia and Saint.....and yeah, my face MELTED off (zits and everything)! That was the beginning of many heated debates in my house! LOL, mom and pop we're scared, but eventually, were cool with it. What would that have been......82ish? Something like that. | |

| MTv playing Can I Play With Madness video was my first metal memory.
But Def Leppard - Hysteria and GnR Lies were perhaps my firsr albums. But it was For Those About to Rock album which made me an AC/DC slave and a metal addict. My 4th album was Piece of Mind - the best album by any band any era.

| I was quite young, but I VIVIDLY remember watching alice cooper perform "welcome to my nightmare" on the muppet show. A few days later I saw an Alice cooper record (schools out) at our local library, but my mom wouldn't let me check it out. So began a long period of trying to listen to music my parents wouldn't allow in the house! A few years later I discovered Stryper, barren cross, etc, and my parents attitudes changed towards metal as a whole, but I still had to hide most of my secular stuff.
Oh, and I'm not sure if my memory is faulty or not, but I seem to remember an episode of the old PBS series 3-2-1 contact that had KISS on it. Anyone else remember that?

HAIL, FELLOW CLOSET ROCKER!!! *scrambles to burry shoebox with Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, AC/DC and GnR tapes under dirty laundry* HA! Yeah, I remember hiding megadeth, motley crue, etc. I'd borrow a ton of tapes/records from my friends and dub them, but sometimes my parents would realize what I was doing, and snatch the tape away while reading the lyrics/artwork, etc. They weren't real happy when they read the lyrics to some of the old megadeth/metallica etc stuff! My parents threw away a bunch of great stuff, but I just kept on buying it!

Your Dad was a pastor? Mine too! I'd also take sermon and other random church tapes and do the same. I still have all of them in a box someplace. My Mom was a nursing instructor, and she'd have all these tapes of lectures she'd give, so I'd just dub over those as well. I had tons of tapes labelled "practical nursing lecture 12-1985" and whatnot containing lots of forbidden metal! Ah, those were the days.

| My parents, who hated Rock music, let us kids watch an anti-Rock/Metal show called The Eagle's Nest on one of the christian cable channels. Hearing those tunes on that show is what got me interested in it. Oops! And I used to hide my Metal and Rock tapes in my chemistry set. | |

| Man... I never knew how lucky I was to have parents who didn't give a rat's patoot what I listened to. I salute you guys for your perseverance! My parents were both big music fans that grew up during all of the anti-Elvis hysteria (sorta the 50s version of the PMRC era) and the "Beatles are the second coming of Satan" nonsense, so when Tipper and her cronies started picking on Blackie Lawless and "my" bands when I was about fifteen, they must've thought, "Oh boy, here we go again" and their advice was "Ehh, ignore these people." I do remember my Dad saying that the government should find something more useful to do with his tax dollars. _________________ "If you're a false, don't entry, because you'll be burned and died!"

My dad wasn't too fond of the music we 4 brothers played either. Then one day we were driving a 45 minute drive to my grandparents house, and we played him some Stryper (Soldiers Under Command, I think), and we basically translated for him the entire album (my dad never learned English). He never made comments about our music after that. He did however tell us to TUUUUUUUUUUUURN IT DOOOOOOOOOOOOOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!! _________________

Is that the PA one?
I used to go to one at Clay's Park in Ohio - can't remember the name! 3 day long weekend! Loved that! Yeah - that's the one at Mt. Union, PA. Good times there. They used to have some real good bands playing there but now that's not the case.

| Yeah, creation '91 I would have been about 2 years old. I so wish I was around when stuff like that was going on, I missed out on a lot of christian metal history. What I would do to go back in time and catch a Vengeance Rising, Deliverance, Believer, or Crucifier show. | |

| My moment was the first time I heard Smoke on the Water (I was 6, it was 1980) while riding in my Uncle's van. My "personal" moment would have been playing "The Trooper" in a school talent contest in 5th grade with a bunch of my friends. | |
