I know there are some that are genuine Satanists, in that they follow a sort of Anton Levay sort of Satanism. King Diamond is one. Some claim to be Wiccans. Not sure all that entails. I don't think it's easy to know what an artists truly believes unless they are vocal about it. Many, if not most of the artists who sing about "satanic" stuff are doing so as part of the show, so to speak. ( ie. Slayer and Venom)

Wiccan is a pagen religion, very much into the earth, etc. They believe in spells, magaical herbs, etc. The do have wicca covens, but they are not satanist. I don't agree with the basis or ideas of the religion, but they aren't satanist

I think Varg Vikerness (formerly of Burzum) had some serious credentials. Church burning, murder of Mayhem guitarist, etc. But he claimed to later be more about anti-Christian paganism than Satanism per se. That was his line while he was in prison anyway. In fact I think he tried to imply that his dispute with the Mayhem guy had something to do with Vikerness' getting away from Satanism and into Wotanism or something. I could be wrong, I ain't claiming to be an expert on this subject or anything. He started making weird ambient music (I've never heard it) while in prison I guess. He may still be rotting away there for all I know.

I always found it hilarious that at different points during the 80's the guitarists from both these "evil" bands (Hank Sherman of Mercyful Fate and Jeff Mantas of Venom) embarked on solo/side projects that turned out to be some of the corniest melodic pop metal ever made. Totally harmless stuff, but pretty entertaining actually! I like both the Mantas album and the two "Fate" albums a lot. But they kinda took the sting out of the evil images of their previous bands I gotta say, at least for me.

Destruction are not satanist, it was just an imagery.

Christian (yup, still call Varg that, becasue it pisses him off! lol) changed to pagan/nationalist/neo-nazi. He claimed to be from the same family as Vidkun Quisling (yes, the Norwegian dude who was in league with Hitler during the WWII, which last name actually has become an international word for backstabber!) Varg even vut his hair just like him! The murder was done after a money dispute. Varg Vikernes is still in prison, and will be for a long time after his lame ass attempt to run!
