"Tales From The Crypt Presents: Bordello of Blood" (1996)
A woman hires a wise-ass private eye to find her missing brother, and the search leads him to a house of prostitution run by lady vampires. Hilarity and mucho splatter ensues. This feature length spin-off from the HBO television series is cheap, campy, and pretty damn entertaining, with an impressive cast of dependable D-listers (Dennis Miller, Erika Eleniak, Corey Feldman, Chris Sarandon, Angie Everhart) and lots of blood, guts, and bare boobs. Plus, the theme song is by Anthrax!

Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988)
Tongue in cheek sci fi horror about an invasion from space by aliens that resemble clowns down to their ship resembling a big top. It's up to a couple of teenagers to stop their rampage of harvesting human victims. A campy film, with some hilarious deaths involving pranks by the clowns. Not too bad of a watch.

"Tales From The Crypt Presents: Demon Knight" (1995)
The final battle between good & evil takes place at a run-down boarding house in a remote desert town, when two strangers -- one a demonic "soul collector," the other a "Demon Knight" on a mission to stop him - arrive to fight it out, with a bunch of innocents caught in the middle. This spinoff from the HBO horror series is a pretty decent, action packed horror cheapie that makes the most of its claustrophobic setting and a great cast that includes William Sadler, Billy Zane (who's an absolute hoot as the villain), Jada Pinkett, and Thomas Haden-Church. Gory comic book fun that was intended to kick off a film franchise, which faded away when the sequel "Bordello of Blood" crashed at the box office a year later.

"House on Haunted Hill" (1999)
Five strangers are invited to an eccentric millionaire's all-night private party at a supposedly-haunted former insane asylum. If they can survive till morning, they'll win a million dollars. You can probably guess how well that goes. This remake of the 1950s Vincent Price oldie has cool set designs and atmosphere to spare, plus some disturbing visual effects that help keep it from becoming just another generic body count flick. Not a classic, but spooky enough for Halloween season viewing.

There is a 3rd film in the series from 2002 called Ritual, about voodoo. I saw it a few years ago but don't really remember too much about it. I'm not too sure where it would be available for streaming.

"2069: A Sex Odyssey" (1974)
...how can you possibly pass up a movie with a title like that? A UFO full of lovely Venusian ladies lands in the mountains of Bavaria on a mission to extract -- errr, let's call it "genetic material" -- from the local males in order to re-populate their dying planet. Needless to say, the men folk are more than willing to help the space chicks fulfill their needs, much to the dismay of their wives and girlfriends. Wacky hi-jinks and frequent full frontal nudity ensues. ...I know this sounds like a porno, but it isn't -- it's just a low-budget German-made sex comedy that's (poorly) dubbed into English. A couple of the "alien" girls are nice looking but the film itself is merely a series of scenes of random people acting silly and then getting naked. I think I might have laughed ONCE. Otherwise I found myself thinking, "how can a movie with this much nudity be this BORING?" I swear I am not making this movie up. It exists and it's available for free viewing on the "Plex" streaming service, though I do not recommend you do so. Do I really need to say it? AVOID.

"Prince of Darkness" (1987)
A Catholic priest (Donald Pleasance) summons a team of University researchers to study a mysterious tube of green ooze that's been discovered in the catacombs of a disused church building. They eventually conclude that the ooze is the distillation of pure evil in liquid form - basically, Satan in a bottle - and it begins to have murderous effects on everyone who's been in contact with it. John Carpenter apparently considers this bizarre blend of religious horror and sci-fi to be part of a loose "apocalypse trilogy" along with The Thing (1982) and In The Mouth of Madness (1994) - but it's nowhere as good as either of those two. Prince of Darkness spent so much time on talky set up by the time the evil action finally started kickin' in, I was bored and dozing off. You can safely skip this one, it's one of JC's lesser works for sure.

Spirit Halloween:The Movie (2023)
Three middle school students, believing their too old for trick or treating, decide to break into and spend the night at the new Spirit Halloween store in town. Unknown to them, the store is built over cursed land and an evil spirit (Christopher Lloyd) lurks within, hoping to escape it's imprisonment there possessing some of the cool animatronic characters on display there. Light, fluffy Halloween aimed toward kids. Think of a slight, and I mean slight, more adult version of Goosebumps.

The Return Of Godzilla (1984)
After nearly 40 years, I finally got to see the original Japanese version of this film, having seen the Americanized version with added clips of Raymond Burr (much like the original Godzilla) many many times. This movie ignores all the previous Godzilla save for the original and deals with the monster returning after 30 tears to terrorize Japan once again. A cool and welcome return, with some cold war touches added in. A big hit for Toho, which launched the Heisei series throughout the next decade.

Forbidden World (1982)
A Roger Norman Alien rip off, about a military office is sent to a scientific research facility on a remote planet where a group of scientists have created a new species through gene splicing. The creature escapes and begins feasting on the team. Nothing new to see here, but there's plenty of blood, slime and nudity from the 2 hot women of the cast.

"Dr. Giggles" (1992)
An asylum escapee with a medical delusion sets up shop in a small town and starts "operating" on the local teenage population. A fun, twisted little medically-themed slasher sickie with a perfectly cast Larry Drake (L.A. Law, Darkman) as the title psycho and a pre-Charmed Holly Marie Combs as the final girl. Loads of gory goodness.
"Deathgasm" (2015)
A dorky high-school garage band uncovers sheet music to a "forbidden" song that, when played, turns everyone around them into blood-vomiting zombies. Hilarity ensues. Falling somewhere between "Get Thrashed" and "Evil Dead 2," this over-the-top splatter comedy from New Zealand is funny as hell, gory as hell, and METAL as hell. Horns up.

I was working for Spirit Halloween last year when this was released, but I still haven't seen it! (A couple of the twenty-somethings I worked with did, though, and they said it "sucked.")
Strangely, the Spirit Halloween stores did almost no promotion for that movie at all. You'd have thought they would've pimped the hell out of it -- it's basically a full-length commercial for them! -- but nope. We had one poster for it on display near the store entrance. That was all. There was no tie-in merchandise, no t-shirts, no anything. I think the company saw the movie, decided it was a turkey, and washed their hands of it...

Trilogy Of Terror II (1996)
Dan Curtis brought us a second anthology film structured the same as his first classic one from the 70s, three stories based on Richard Matheson tales, and all starring a single actress as the main character in all three stories, this time played by Lysette Anrthony. All three are decent enough stories, with the highlight being the return of the little, murderous Zuni fetish doll.

"Shaun of the Dead" (2004)
Two London slackers (Simon Pegg and Nick Frost) must step up to protect their friends when a zombie apocalypse rages through the city. Their survival plan? Go to the pub and wait for it to blow over. A very funny British horror comedy that deals out gore and laughs in equal measure. "Shaun" has deservedly become a cult classic in the years since its release.
"Sanitarium" (2013)
Anthology-style horror flick ala "Tales From The Crypt" set in a mental institution, telling the tales of how three particular patients arrived there. An artist is slowly driven to murder by his own creations, a kid deals with his abusive parent by dreaming up a demon, and a doomsday prepper, locked in his own underground bunker, slowly loses what's left of his mind. The second segment is probably the best one, though they're all cool and creepy in a "Twilight Zone" kind of way. Robert Englund, Lacey ("Party of Five") Chabert, Lou Diamond Philips, and Malcolm McDowell give this indie a little bit of star power. Not a must-see, but entertaining enough for a single viewing.

Slotherhouse (2023)
Rather silly movie about a sorority house senior trying to win the election for house president and feels that having an exotic pet would give her the cache to pull it off. After a chance meeting in a mall with an exotic pet dealer (known as O-exotic), she decides on a a seemingly harmless sloth, not knowing about it's rather violent tendencies (as shown at the beginning of the movie) and takes it to live with her in the sorority house. But this movie takes it into the even more absurd, as the sloth, during it's killing spree, is able to work a computer, drive, take selfies with it's victims (all mostly in a montage) and has the constitution of Michael Myers and Jason Voorhees. Very bizarre, tongue in cheek film.

Two classic Denis Leary stand-up performances on YouTube - No Cure For Cancer (1993) and Lock N Load (1997)
There was a point in my life where I could quote the entire No Cure... performance chapter and verse. I still occasionally day dream about walking into a bar on karaoke night and launching into "Asshole," complete with the rant in the middle.
I was an angry young man then.

The Wolf Man (1941)
Universal classic that brings about the origin of Larry Talbot, aka the Wolf Man (Lon Chaney Jr.). The main character returns to his ancestral home and while a walk though the woods, defends a girl from a "wolf" attack, and after killing it with a silver handled cane, it appears to be a man. Wounded in the attack, Talbot soon turns into a werewolf himself and begins stalking the countryside for victims. A fun classic film that never gets old.
The Omega Man (1971)
In this version of the Richard Matheson story I Am Legend, Charlton Heston stars as one of the remaining human beings on Earth, a survivor of biological warfare due to the injection of an experimental vaccine. Most everyone else died instantly, while the remaining slowly devolved into light sensitive albino mutants and will slowly die. The mutants form a cult like community intent on killing Heston as he is the last vestiges of humanity before the war. Heston soon discovers that there are plague resistant survivors, mostly children, and that his blood may be able to save them all. Pretty cool movie from my childhood that I've seen numerous times.
All Hallow's Eve (2013)
Anthology film about a babysitter and her 2 charges return from trick or treating and discover that someone slipped a vhs tape into a treat bag. Watching it treats us to 3 separate stories all featuring the maniacal Art The Clown to varying degrees, most prominently in third. It soon becomes apparent that someone is stalking the 3. Somewhat uneven, with the first story being the weirdest, but rather still rather gory. I'll have to catch Terrifier and Terrifier 2, both with the Art The Clown in it.
